W210 2001 Smart Key Replacement

Hi All,

I was just wondering if it was possible to either buy a new case for my key and swap the internals over or if it was possible to upgrade to the newer style smart key (chrome one).

Would be greatful of any help!

Swap inside over to same type of case yes, upgrade to newer key no the internals are diffferent.

Ok great, lastly - if I was to purchase a new key from the dealer, would it be the newer style or the same as what I already have ?

It would be the chrome key.
There is also a way to swap your internals over to a chrome key from the bay.
You need to transplant 1 particular chip from your key's board to the chrome one's board, it is very difficult and risky, I don't know anyone who will do it, you also run the risk of having no key of you feck it up.

Thanks for the help - I would really like the chrome key as my existing one is pretty scratched and the buttons are cracked..

Ok I've found a seller who will send me a replacement case for my old style smart key, last quetion - has anyone swapped the internals themselves?

I can take the top but off but can't seem to get the white retaining plastic clip off?

Just wondered if anyone had done this before and could offer some guidance - don't want to pay £7 for the guy to do it you see!

I found this on ebay, awesome!
This guy swaps the chip from the old key to new chrome key under a microscope with a precision solder thingy. The new key works right of the bat.
