W210 320 CDI Exhaust

I'm getting a nasty rattle from my exhaust at idle, and I can envisage it becoming very annoying over time! I think it's coming from the back box, but I've not had a proper investigation yet, other than reaching under the car and rocking the box which changes the tone of the noise, or stops it alltogether. It's a genuine part, so with 150k on the clock I guess it could be the original exhaust.

Given that an Eberspacher part is getting on for £300 I'm tempted to go down the route of cutting off the box completely and having straight pipes. I've seen a few on youtube that have done it and the sound is awesome, but not too loud so, has anybody done this, or any opinions??

Check the heat shield above the back box is still in place properly.

That's what was wrong with mine - discarded it completely and all fine

check you exhaust brackets they may have rusted off and maybe knocking / rattling
