Hello everyone, I'm new to the forum and fairly new to Mercs having had a 95 E220 Coupe, 95 E200 Estate and now an 01 E430.

Everything was working fine until a few weeks ago when the EC light stayed on. Previous to this, over the period of a couple of weeks the aircon and been making a wooshing noise when 1st starting the car.

I went through all the sensor readings and fault codes using the climate control display and came to the conclusion that the system needed gassing (sensor 7 read 00 and came up with fault code b1241 - low refridgerant)

Anyway, had the system recharged but now the compressor won't kick in. The fault codes have cleared and I can switch the EC light on and off.

Any help much appreciated!

Thanks.

Help/advice required..........

Is there anybody out there who can help? Next stop Mercland!

I would have thought it was unlikely to be the compressor if it was working before the regas. More likely to be a control or sensor problem.

Just as a test you could apply 12v to teh compressor clutch or meter it out to check if there is 12v being fed when there should be A/C.

Thanks Dieselman. That had crossed my mind, not had a chance yet to delve into the engine with a multimeter.

Is there a pressure sensor in the system? As the climate control panel give a sensor reading of 00, even though the system has been regassed. I didn't think it needed the compressor running to create pressure.

The compressor increases the pressure from about 7 bar to 16ish when running properly.

i also have a 2001 e430 had similar prob with compressor not running took car to aircon specialist lost gas had it regassed and dye added found leak oncondensor behind aircon fans. have been told a weak point on w210 '

Thanks for your help so far chaps. Does anybody know where the relay for the aircon compressor is? I have had a look in the fuse box near the brake master cyl but I don't know which relay controls what.
