Hi,
I have read all lot of posts about retrofitting comand to cars including w210. in all case this seems to have involved fitting the unit in the original radio space. and in all these cases that location seems too low.
IMHO the unit is not ideally located, aesthestically and functionally. it does not look nice so far down with the gear shift in the way and secondly poses a driving hazard with it being so low down. (MB did not intentionally design/locate the radios there for you to look at!)
I have been trying to find information on how to solve this by installing a display device (5" - 7" widescreen) that can be linked to a Sat Nav module above the central air vents. (just like in the w204, volvo S60, Audi A8 etc).
The electronics are very feasible with a number of manufacures supplying (touchscreen) TFT, GPS Sat Nav modules etc.
1. Has anyone actually done a modification/upgrade along those lines?
2. Is it possible to cut into a w210 dashboard above the central air vents to fit such a display?
Anyone?
or am i delving into the areas justifying why luxury car makers have design departments and millions to throw at product development!!!!
