The "fluid" in my auto-dipping door mirror is no longer covering the entire surface. Is there a sensible place to get a replacement glass? MB want £250 to replace it (£187 for the part)

Where, in general, is the best alternative parts supplier?

Cheers

Richard

I bought the non auto dipping glass from the local dealer for £40. The fittings for the heated glass are the same so the mirror still defrosts.

Had the same problem on my '99 E240 Estate. Being the cheapstake that I am I investigated further and found the liquid is trapped between the mirror and a sheet of glass sealed around the edge with a black sealant.

Solution: remove mirror, lever off outer glass, breaking in the process, cut wires for auto dipping and make safe, polish mirror to remove liquid.

Result: Mirror that still demists, no auto dimming, but no cost either.

or £10 from hallfords, self adhesive, still demists.
