Has anyone removed one on their drive ??

T/C seems to be on it's way out - slight vibration which at times gets worse and is like driving over rumble strips. Have been reading other postings which all had similar pointers that I have.

It all happened on Wednesday driving down south with large caravan on back, came to the A34/M4 traffic lights (heading for services), slowing down and it was just the timing of lights changing, not enough room to stop, putting foot down to get past lights and extra weight on the back.
Stopped at services and there was a very bad vibration throughout the car, but lessoned by increasing revs (car parked). Noticeable vibration would come back depending upon speed/revs.

I'll try replacing the fluid (was done about 10k back) as I have read that that sometimes lessons the problem (but is not a cure).

What would it cost to replace a T/C at a garage and would people recommend a recon one ??

If any of the traders would be willing to PM me a price to do the work, and how long it would take, then depending upon price I am willing to travel as have friends/relatives around the country.

A DECENT re furbed TC is around 400 quid. Plus 5 hours labour and some atf.

Thanks Olly,

When you say DECENT - who would you recommend ?

Before you change the auto-trans, check your engine mounts.
I experienced very similar problems to those you describe.

Vibration started as soon as DRIVE was selected.
It was most-pronounced on acceleration.
It disappeared completely above about 45 mph.

One of the engine mounts was clearly U/S.
Changed it and the problem was very much reduced.
Changed the other one and it cleared the problem.

I use a local guy who does them for me.

In the end Johnsco was right :bannana:

the one on the right, and the bit, was the n/s mount.

Did a test with the engine running, in gear, foot on brake and blipped the throttle - engine on the n/s jumped by at least 6"

Also replaced gearbox mount.

Now very smooth and quiet. Also very much more power to the wheels
