Hi Folks - Anybody out there know where I can get a blower regulator - the small black box type WITHOUT integral heats sink - for a 98 E430 with climate control - These seem to be like rocking horse poo. The item the stealers quote is the revised version with integral heat sink.
Any assistance appreciated

Is there a reason why you have chosen to not get one with the integrated heatsink, bearing in mind it is "revised"?

I lost one when I had a W210 and this was MY 2000. Perhaps the improvement came only later. Anyway, these are so prone to failure that I wouldn't put the original part if there was an improved one available. Not sure about alternative parts sources and what kind of parts they have.

It appears to be about £28 from inchcape, that said it has been revised a few times and there are quite a few alternative parts.

Hi Shude. oh that it were so easy.. Here a picture of a blower like mine - the Regulator being the gizzit with the Siemens stamp.

As you can see it is a separate item that screws onto the Heat sink body of the Blower. At some point this has been replaced by Merc to the pic below.

This item has a heat sink as part of its construction - and is around £150. To change to this I need the following four items including a new heater motor!.. and these are 2007 prices!!

A2108211651 £194.77
A2108201017 £18.38
A2108206742 £314.67
A2108352840 £41.19
Total price £569.01 including vat.

So if you know where I can get the offending bit for £28 Id love to know!! As when I went to Mercedes World - around 4 miles from my home, my VIN came up on their systems as having this new configuration. it ws only when I took the relevant panels off that it became clear I was running 'old spec' - and needed all these extra bits just to get some puff from the blower!

Cheers
Steve

Having read all that it looks like my W202 has the "newer" style rather than older. See details and pics here: http://www.mbclub.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=5482

If it were me I'd be tempted to visit a breaker and replace the whole lot with the "newer" setup, will hopefully be cheaper than buying new items but won't necessarily be any more reliable when finished I'm afraid.

The price I came up with before was based on one item from the EPC that looks like the regulator, but then the drawings aren't always perfect ;)

Hey Shude.. Mmm I think I may have to go down that route as Ive been chasing various breakers for this part in vain for around a year now. I do know however that there is a workaround using an S Class regulator and getting busy with the crimping pliers! I saw the how-to-do-it on an American Merc forum.
The problem is that as mine has climate, scrapped versions of them come up quite rarely - Ive visited Mercman twice for a shufty, but unfortunately they didnt have one!..

Tis Ok this time of year, but come winter, I need something more than an asthmatic hamster to demist the windows!! :)

You are right in that there is a different setup between models but it seems that climate and aircon use the same parts, vehicles without either have something else.

It is entirely possible that the fan motor itself is basically the same for all models with differences only in the controller and the regulator.
