Hi all!

Another one for you warranty specialists. The crossmember at the front of the car is terribly rusty and flaky. Is this covered under the Merc warranty?
The car is a 99 pre-facelift W210 E-Class with full Mercedes Service History.

Anybody have any ideas of have had a successful claim in the past?

It should be covered IMO - it's good job that you have FMSH as less chances of claim being turned down. Claim should go trhough fine.

This depends on whether your car was built after the Mobilo-life warranty or before.
If after then it should be covered anyway, if before then 10 year limit on safety items, eight on bodywork.

Hi all

On the WIS there is a procedure for repairing the cross member, there is even a part no. for the repair piece. Seems sensible to put a new plate on the bottom rather than renewing the whole thing.
Part number for new soffit plate is A210 628 15 16 about £15. Also listed are 2 spacers A116 997 15 81. These keep the acoustic covering down a bit to allow water to drain thus not letting it happen again.

It is also much cheaper. To replace the whole chassis cross member, the car has to be jacked and held in position, the cross member hold both the ends of both wishbones and costs about £150. I recently had the new soffit plate fitted.

I have a 1997 W210 E-Class with FMSH had a new crossmember fitted FOC last august. The dealer even supplied a loan car free for the 3 days including insurance.
