Hi guys I have been sitting on the edge for a while now reading hundreds of your posts and most useful they are too... but now feel the urge to post for the first time.

I have a 2002 280,000 mile W210 E220 CDi with MB installed phone kit running through a Viseeo and am looking to move the whole lot into another 2002 W210 E220cdi which does not have a preinstalled phone.

Big question... is this possible, or are the electronic units tied to the original cars VIN number some how??

Cheers

Bill

Nothing VIN specific on the phone control unit. But if you want to make it 100% like from the factory, you have to swap quite a few parts and some wiring. You might consider a short-cut if you only want BT HF with ViseeO.

Thanks for the very prompt reply DB. So from the sound of it what I want to do is possible I just need to find a specialist to remove the phone kit prior to me trading the car on, and then to install it into my next w210. Would that be a fair interpretation of you reply.

Cheers

The phone control unit is easy to remove. Equally the antenna feeder loss compensator (which isn't even that necessary). The new car might not have a microphone and the microphone is usually in the rear view mirror, was it actually at the overhead control panel on a W210. Equally if you remove the cradle completely, you would need some parts put back. This would only work if you have both the new and the old car to take care of the swap.

Wiring harnesses are likely integrated to other wiring and it would be pretty difficult to remove all relevant wires from the old car. I guess antenna is on top of the roof, you don't want to leave a hole there after removing the antenna.

I would take the controller out and the phone cradle (the armrest compartment cover would hide area showing removed parts). Next I would ask if Comand Online would sell you a modified kit, without the phone controller. If the intention is to only use ViseeO, the antenna can be left out and even the phone cradle would not need to be installed to the centre armrest compartment but is certainly doable. Of course the kit can be used for a very much like the OEM setup too. For the OEM like setup you would have to find a way to swap parts between the two cars or buy a kit from Comand Online (but then you hardly save a lot if the phone control unit and the cradle are the only parts you would be reusing).
