As I tried to use the keyfob to open the key and turn the alarm off nothing happened, no plip of alarm no indicator flash and doors not open. MB called and engineer was able to reset codes via laptop after much perusing of problem. This "cure" lasted one day! Back to MB main dealer as this time no codes appeared on engineers lap top. Fearful drive to main dealer ensued, no indicators, no electric anything and alarm sounding when brakes touched
After four weeks, many new parts and several thousands of pounds later its almost cured( well the back windows arnt connected cause they still cause alarm if activated.) Moral of story is If the alarm entry fails to work consider buying a sledgehammer or a gallon of petrol and let your imagination run riot.
