Hello everyone.
I posted last year when I had fuel problems which largely due to the advice given on here were solved.
I am in France at the moment and due to come back on Tuesday when disaster has struck.
Last Sunday there started a squeak from the front pulleys area of the engine. This got worse over the coming days resulting in the alternator pulley wheel totally coming off today.I stopped pretty quick and the water boiled briefly but doesn't appear terminal as the car starts ok.
A friend who used to work for MB but a long time ago has had a look and when you put the pulley back on the shaft it really wobbles about and is knackered. He thought as there was the remants of a rubber seal he wondered if there was a rubber insert that has totally disintegrated.
Can I just replace this insert(if indeed there even is one).
Can I just replace the pulley?
Has anyone got a good used alternator or even an old one that I could get the pulley off?
I have seen alternators on Ebay for around £150 are they any good?
The no.on mine is a Bosch 115 with nos 0 123 510 080 and 010 154 9402 on it.
Also on any tips on how to get the alternator off.I can only see one MB hexinut on the top and I can't feel any others underneath. Also space seems quite restricted,is it a radiator out job or is there a trick to it.
If anybody is willing to chat to me about it I can phone them back from my landline to a landline.
Any help would be gratefully received as I am stuck.
Many thanks in anticipation
Regards Rob

What about nearest mb dealer for a new pulley, or maybe easier to order one from the uk.

Alternator woes

Hi all
Thanks for the help received.I have ordered a pully wheel initially in the hope that the shaft isn't too worn.It appears that the alternator is fixed. How do you tension the belt?I presume there is a tensioner somewhere else. The car has aircon if this makes a difference.
Many thanks again

Tensioner is on the head, you need undo the 13mm and used a 3/8th bar through the hole to release the tension.

Hi Rob AKA Chesterpiglet

I wonder if you resolved your pully problem? Did you replace the pully or the complete Alternator?

I appears I have the same failure.

Cheers

I decided to buy a new one, for just over 100 more. It has yet to arrive here in Vienna, so I can't say if all is fully sorted. The fitting may be wrong - they may have sent the wrong item. Dunno till it gets here - sigh.

Thanks for asking :-)

Blessings
