Hi all
I have a 2001 E320 CDI W210, I seem to be only averaging 24mpg locally.
I have fully serviced he car with 5w40 fully synthetic oil with mb223 spec, all filters changed and put a new thermostat in as it was running cold.
Im still getting poor mpg and cant understand why.

I have over the past few days experienced a 1 second misfire or jerk when coming to a stop.
I was thinking of cleaning egr valve out but looked like too much of a job. I managed to undo the 3 nuts on egr valve and the cooler but looked tricky so left it.
Please help someone as im sure i should be getting better than this?

I run a S210 and have a very short local cycle (3 miles + 10 stop starts + A/C) and so I think I it is very sensitive to my driving style, I only just get to normal temperature (new stat) and I have arrived, so I get mid at high 20s, but easily get 40+ on the motorway! However I may be missing something here.

I have a 2001 E220 CDI and after changing the thermostat can now get 46mpg on a decent run. It takes about 10 miles to reach temp (90C) depending on the ambient temp, if I drive carefully I get 52mpg. Interestingly I thought I had a misfire too, totally convinced in fact, but it turned out to be a dodgy set of front pads grabbing on the discs at certain speeds, might be worth a check first.

fuel economy

i taxi a e320 cdi year 2000 i get 34 miles to a gallon running in town stop starts on a airport run it shows 41 to a gallon

#4 Wow, how do you do it? :thumb:

fuel economy

very light throttle no more than 2000 revs round town on a run it actually does better at 80 than 70

I'm getting over 45 mpg when keeping at 65 on the mway, 30 around town in mine, I think it would do even more if I stuck at 55, not sure I believe all these "it does better going faster" comments I see around, I think it depends a lot on the terrain (hilly, flat etc)

Very difficult to make a valid comparison with the variables of "local" driving. If the engine doesn't get up to temperature it will be running inefficiently. And is locally all stop start in traffic?
On a long run, my 5 pot 2.7 cdi shows 50 mpg or so, so yours ought to be upto 45 mpg I'd have thought.

3ltr V6CDI but in the vito, on a run up the motorway best achieved cold day with a tailwind at 70mph on the satnav 37mpg normal 34/35mpg this is tank to tank. I live in the country so no traffic lights but running at a steady 50/55 i get over 40 which makes sense as this thing is like a brick so less wind resistance and also below the magic 2000revs. If you boot it it gets very expensive :)
