Hi can any member tell me how to change the Thermostat inc housing on my 2002 W210 e320cdi Avantgarde Estate please.
Is this an easy job or should I get an Indie to do this.
Valued replies appreciated

quite easy, just can be a bit fiddly

best thing to do is remove the oil filter housing to get access to the lower bolt (bolts are E10 iirc)

Then it's 3 bolts to remove, disconnect the 2 pipes and done.

There is a small part which looks like a cotton reel, ensure this is sitting correctly when fitting new one (can be a bit fiddly)

You don't have to be good with spanners for this one mate

But you do have to be careful...you are close to plastic pipes which can break off their connection points.

Thanks Bob
Is there a drawing on this that I can check out when doing the job.
I am an Electrical Engineer, and quite handy with mechanical work although I have never changed a Thermostat on a Mercedes, so just want to make sure I am conversant with this before starting to change the part.
another question you may be able to answer, is there much coolant loss when removing the housing ?
I will be fitting a Circoli Thermostat complete with Housing with is advised as suitable for my W210 E30CDI from E.C.P.
Many thanks

Many thanks my friend your advice is always appreciated
Do you have any ideas ref my previous post regarding drawing or coolant query.
Best regards

Can't help with the drawings. Coolant loss will be minimal and easily topped up via the tank on the left of the bay.
