Hi, I am looking for a clean low mileage example of the facelifted w210 e55. Please let me know if anyone knows about one or has one for sale.

Thanks.

At last I found and bought a 2000 full mercedes service history 86000 miles car in very good condition. At a good price too so I get to keep my designo e240 as well.

£6,500. I will have to sort some minor bubbling at the bottom of the wheel arches, but my main concern was an immaculate engine, gearbox and interior. The bubbling cannot be seen unless looking for it.

Should be a good car. How's yours been?

That sounds about right. If it has kept its MB service history up to date you should be covered by the goodwill aspect of Mobilolife. So the corrosion you've found - which is fairly typical of the W210 - might be corrected by MB itself. Sometimes MB refuses to do this if you've just bought the car as they reasonably argue the corrosion was reflected in the price you paid. But worth a try when you next see your MB dealer.

I've had my E55 for seven years and remain committed to it. At 105,000 miles and with everything done that ever needed doing including a full MB service history, it has proved highly satisfactory and extremely reliable (corrosion apart, although it was all fixed by MB free of charge). Practically a member of the family, in fact.

I have had non-standard repairs handled by an excellent independent MB specialist and would recommend you find one too - maybe you already have.

I'll bet 90% of your 'domestic & pleasure' miles in the coming year are done in the AMG assuming it proves a good, reliable example. Which from what you say, it will.

Sounds like a fair price. Mine has just clocked 131,000 miles and has been fine mechanically, had the bodywork done under MB goodwill so thats all sorted. Comand unit went wrong, lcd screen 'bled' but bought a replacement, other than that all ok. Hope you enjoy yours as much as I do :D:D:D

My previous E55 racked up 175,000 before I got rid of it and never used a drop of oil!

If the car is older than eigth years MB will not do the bodywork under goodwill. Also you have to have owned the car for a minimum of six months before they will do it.

Thanks guys. I already have a reliable specialist for the servicing "Greenvale Mercedes" in whitefield. In terms of the bodywork, I doubt that mercedes when doing it under good will would do it meticulously. I will spend the money to a good garage and be there while it gets done so its done properly.

Anyway very excited, as its pick up day tomorrow and first time on the motorway with a 55. Behold M6 Toll. I will be sensible though as I do want to maintain a clean licence.

I have now put together a complete TO DO list, after spending a day with the car. All relating to ancillaries like:
- drivers mirror glass has a shadow in it and I will be hunting on ebay for the same dimming type, plus the folding motor is slow (will try greasing first before replacing).
- passenger mirror the led light is not working
- headlight switch feels worn when turning on or off, although works fine but again on ebay for a good one.
- noticed the needle jumping (ticking) between miles at speed so possibly an instrument cluster replacement but will check with my garage before i do anything.

I ve got about 30% on the brakes and noticed that it has new disks on the front and a small lip on the rears so not bad.

The most important thing for me is that while driving back with the friend that gave me a lift to pick up (250 mile journey each way) is that I was hammering it in front of him to check for smoke and absolutely nothing comes out even on hard kickdowns. The gear changes are smooth too.

Birdman you are lucky for having one in black, the closest I could get is dark blue.

Proverbial Hen's teeth, especially with black leather and parktronic.

I'm another who finds himself checking every day:(

Good luck buccal, I hope you find the one. It is so stressful when the idea got in my head, I was going mad. Make sure you keep your eye on pistonheads.co.uk as well as all the other car sale sites.

Others have had different experiences on this forum.

I'm outside the 8yr window and have just had door tops, tailgate and front cross member done on my Nov 2000 car.

Barbanasos - I'd be interested if you're successful in your hunt for a dimmer mirror. Best price I've seen is £159 from Euro car parts. Cheap ones don't dim.
buccal - mine has designo grey & black Comfort seats and parktronic but no COMAND. Getting everything right is hard, but worth it.

Birdman, do you think that an S class mirror glass would fit? (from the same years) They look similar in shape for all C, E and S class but not sure about the wiring.

I'm certain it wouldn't. The only part that will fit in this case, is the part specific to the model.
I believe you can get them from Euro Car Parts for less than MB. I was quoted £325 by a dealer the other day for the dimmer glass alone.

To be honest I think you should be looking at pistonheads as most performance cars appear there. The particular one seems quite good and although at over 100k miles it shouldn't be a problem with a full mercedes history. The only thing I thought might have put you off was the two tone leather, otherwise it seems good spec, including curtains on the rear sides.

Here is a photo of mine, that has now had a diy full clean and polish inside out. I found it on pistonheads.
