W210 E55 AMG
I hate this country sometimes. There I am, paying my taxes and my insurance and having no claims or convictions for 16 years.

So, I've just left a deposit on a 1999 E55 AMG. I'm 34.

I've had everything before; Impreza P1's, most M3's, most big BMW's, all Honda Type R's, Lancers etc etc etc.

I thought this would be cheap. I mean, perfect driving record, kept off road in private car parking etc. 4 door sporting saloon.

My insurance, with 15 years NCB and not a single claim anywhere, protected, is.....£1600 per annum. I mean WTF????

I just checked with Elephant online who are normally cheaper than my insurance company. Note that I am already paying that to insure my other car which is a 99 E36 M3 EVO.

I am in shock! I was actually looking to replace the M3 with the AMG, and that was to save money on the premium! What is going on in the UK?

Insurance state that my postcode in Ilford is actually where the majority of insurance fraud takes place. What the heck has that to do with me?? Look at my track record!!!

Can anyone give me details of an insurance company who can do cheap yet reliable insurance?

I'l call my company in the morning and see what they say.

Sick of it!! It's all a big nonsense...

Admiral are the same group as Elephant Neil, albeit a little dearer...

You should be able to get that car on a modern classic policy. Do a search for some specialist insurers, you may be surprised....

Time to shop around.

4 door old man saloon.

.

354bhp 4 door old man saloon.

When the fraudsters who live in the next road along crash into you at the end of your road so they can claim for whiplash / don't have any insurance , they will have to pay out for your car to be fixed.

Yeah that's true. They'd have me to deal with first...

Anyone suggest a good insurer? Who do you guys use?

Hahaha. Apologies for the old man comment, it's not, but you get what I was saying. 4 door family saloon car.

And if it was truly an old man car I wouldn't be buying it!

And yes the M3's are getting slightly chavvy hence I thought a sophisticated move into an E55 would be wise!

If you want high-street insurancery Directline. Several have reported them to be AMG-friendly.

Gents this appears to be a postcode thing. I hate London now, pay a fortune for everything.

It appears that I will be loosing my deposit on the car and not buying it. Sick to the teeth of these people who put our rates up fraudulently. I wanted to drive a nice mature car in a mature way and enjoy it. BUT because of insurance rate rises I cannot through no fault of my own.

Looks like the M3 goes aswell. I was hoping to halve the premium by moving to the AMG but that doesn't look likely.

So, stuck with a Golf MK2 GTI 16V. J reg big bumper and 3 dr/Pearl Grey, so it isn't that bad, but still it's no E55 AMG.

Very very sad. Will be phoning the insurance company first thing to get their quote, beg for a favour and then cry.

Check out classic insurance before making any rash decisions.

I was getting silly quotes for my CLK55 when I first bought it a couple of years ago, likewise ~ £1000+ from most of the mainstream insurers.

Peter Best put it on a modern classic policy for about £300 at the time, and the renewal this year was around £220 fully comp.

Well worth shopping around.

Will

Hi Will, thanks for the suggestion. I may well try that.

OK so I moaned like crazy to my insurance company who promptly called the insurer. Got it down to £1200, which is still ridiculous but what can I do?

Would you guys just stay with this or move on?

Not an e55 but have you checked out the c43 supercharged in the classifieds? Chap there quotes reasonable insurance for a heavily beefed up ride

I believe a standard C43 (Group 18) and an E55 are the same insurance group.
To the O/P try Adrian S Flux, I insure my C43 modified with a CLK 55 engine fitted for just over £400 a year, 43 year old, max NCB, 3 points, though the mileage is limited to 10,000 miles a year.

I agree try Adrian Flux.

They were cheaper for me with the Brabus upgrade and alloy wheels added than my previous company e-sure without the options.

Think mine is around £380 on an S211 E320Cdi Estate with Brabus D6 fitted. Protected no claims, max NCB, no points, off road, thirty something..

I would think you need to start looking at specialist brokers rather than the obvious compare the market type insurance.

sky insurance were the cheapest by far for me, them and greenlight insurance, got my cls55 amg 2005 insured for £798 with 8 years NCB in central birmingham postcode, with no convictions...will see whta the renewal comes out at, but so far great deal
