Evening guys!

In around 2 years when Im 25, I want to buy a W210 E55 AMG. I would want the facelift model. Did this come out after the year 2000 on a Y plate or 51 plate?

I need some advice and help on the following,

- What are they like to live with? i.e. Performance, MPG.
- Servicing costs? Is there any special things that need replacing at certain mileages?
- I suppose they rust?
- Any other things I should know about......

Thanks guys!!

Id love to get a 55 , but the road tax over here is too high . I dont know much about them , but I do know that front brake discs are expensive , about £200 each . And with MPG it will be around the mid teens if you have a heavy foot .

They are very nice cars and absolutely fine to live with. Consumption is great regardless of the engine size. On trip to London from Manchester sticking to the speed limit 30 to 32 mpg and a 16 mile trip with some fun on the way I get 21mpg. Even if the trip computer is optimistic again it will not be that far off.

Performance is great, 0-62 is more like 5.4 with 1/4 mile at mid to low 13s, you just have to watch out on the motorway for your licence as the car brings a new meaning to kicking down for overtaking at 80mph as you will see 120 before you realise.

Tyres at the rear go quick but if you re in the know you can sort that with part worns. Just got a pair of nice pirelli p zeros to match the ones its got for £80 thats with 7mm of thread and one puncture repair. Why buy new as it will eat through them anyway.

No oil consumption either, 3000 miles since I bought mine and the oil hasn't dropped a mm at the dipstick. And this for a car that can be compared to an M5 which is not that much faster especially from start.

Who cares about minor rust, as a good bodyshop can sort. Definately a good buy, but buying a dark colour with a single colour interior (just to be different from all the ones around) might take a long time.

You'll have to look at a lot of dross before you find anything half decent. Great cars apart from the mb issues mentioned already.

This has been discussed before If you use the search function you may be able to find some more info/advice.

Other than the rustthe other things a fualty MAF sensor, not expensive to change but something to look out for. Mpg varies depending on driving style so you can get sensible economy if you drive normally.
