hi all, my car has just been diagnosed as having a problem with the electro plate in the gearbox, i am quite mechanically minded, and i am going to do it myself, does anyone know how tricky it is to do, also is there a how to anywhere that anyone knows of. any help would be great, cheers Guy's...

not too difficult.. drop the sump pan, remove the filter.. drop the complete control unit and swap the parts onto your new plate..

hi cheers for that, is the plate in the bottom of the gearbox then or at the top? i.e do i have to take out the valve body etc, i haven't done anything on a merc box before,

You have to remove the valve body. Then the 6 valves, Then gently lift out the electro plate.

Hi

There was a "How to" in some of the recent Mercedes magazines. Not sure whether it was Mercedes Enthusiast or Mercedes Club mag. Someone will confirm i hope. I would have a rummage round but i am abroad at the min.

Very good article on doing the job in the Mercedes Benz Club Gazette a couple of months ago.....cant find it at the moment though, but will take a look.

Would strongly recommend that this job is done with the car up in the air.

Had mine done at MB under waranty....£600.

Ive seen brand new plates going on occasion on Ebay for the 722.6 gearbox for about £60.
