First stupid mistake of 2015 meant one of our keys for the merc went through the washing machine

Having been to Mercedes in Swindon they swapped the batteries for free but could get no life from it. Are there key repair services here in the UK folks can recommend or am I paying the £232 for a nice new one?

Thanks in advance.

Cheers

Paul

Silly questions, but have you allowed the circuit board to dry out completely before attempting to use it? Best is to pull out the circuit board from the fob and leave it to dry overnight in the airing cupboard with the battery removed.

Give Mercedes Replacement Keys a call. They may be able to help.

I used them for a spare on my old C32. I saved £40 over the dealer and they came out to my office and did it whilst I was at work, really good service.

I think the detergent means this unlikely to work, maybe if it was just plain water. I did the same with a Ford key (keyleess go) and it was toast.

My wife's phone stopped working (a samsung galaxy ace II as it happens, but could have been anything I guess), she didn't put it through the washer, and no water damage was initially expected - but it seems there must have been some water involved at some point.

I read about how to fix this phone and saw a youtube video where they showed what happens to the circuit board sometimes when there is water damage. When the water evaporates eventually it can leave a residue behind, a kind of whitish scale like salt maybe. If this conducts it can prevent the circuit from behaving as normal.

Anyway, as directed and as shown in the youtube video I lightly brushed the areas which had a little of this scale on it with a tooth brush. I used one they gave away on a plane because it hadn't been used before and was quite soft. I was astonished when after doing this, putting the phone back together and trying the phone out that it worked!
