Hi folks

I have a '97 230 Elegance estate which is producing a very noisy rattle with the aircon on, especially under acceleration. There is no noise under very light or no load, or a steady cruise.

I've been told it may be a bearing in the aircon compressor. is this expensive to replace and can it be done by any competent garage without specialist MB knowledge?

Thanks for any advice

If a rattle it may be the magnetic clutch, it is constructed of a few seperate moving components which rotate and engage / disengage, if a compressor bearing is at fault you will tell by using a long screwdriver or a length of hollow pipe hed against the compressor and then the magnetic clutch, the hollow pipe will amplify the sound and help to pin point it.
