Was in my cuzins W210 E240 Facelift today when the rear driver side window dropped all of a sudden all the way down. Tried pressing the window switch to make it go up again but it wouldnt move back up instead i heard weard noises as if something has broken such as a mechanism or something. Owner is really frustrated as to what it could be and why the window doesnt go back up. As it happened in the evening time, there was no where we could go either really so had to cover it up for the night. Any ideas would be great to what it could be and how much it would cost ?

Thanks In Advance

Sounds like the window lift regulator has failed.

Snapped cable?

Regs are cheap from the dealers.

Thanks for all the quick responses so far guys, there is power going to the thing as I heard all sorts of clunk and clank noises i think it might be the regulator if it is so how much is he looking at (genuine) and is it something one can do on there own with basic knowledge ?

They're about £70, you'll only need some torx bits and a rivit gun.

Not the end of the world...

Ahh thanks for that Nick, He probabaly will be popping over to the dealers tommorow and buying dont suppose you would have any part numbers ?

Also what would he need a rivit gun for as i dont think he has one ?

w210 have rivited regulators fitted into the doors.

You will need to get them drilled out so you can remove the old regulator.
I have in the passed just replaced the rivits with nut and bolts and worked fine.

hope this helps

At a guess I'd say it was A2107301646, but you'd need to check that.

They're rivitted in, so pick up some of the appropriate rivits when you go to the dealers.

Cheers Mercedes cozy ad Nick mercedes for all that info. I dont think he has a rivet gun so will most probably be recomending the nut and bolt method.

Would just like to add that there aint any chance someone might have some photos of the process ?

When fitting the nuts and bolts, depending on the thickness of the bolts you may or may not have to drill slightly bigger holes.

There was a bargin a whlie back on ebay, a guy sold he complete door with motor and reg for under £40.

Cheers Mercedes cozy your a star !

Seems a shame that the door on ebay was missed but never mind a new part will im shure last longer then that of a second hand one

This happened to me too. In a panic I asked my dealer if he could help on a Saturday morning. "Oh yes Sir", he said, and he did too. All done for...........300 pounds!!!! When it went for a service to my local ex-dealer mechanic he said it was a common problem and he charges 100.00 incl parts. MB dealers ?, don't go there.

Thanks alot for the info mykaitch. He hasnt actully got this sorted out himself yet. Got the door card off a week back but cant tell what needs replacing. Got two pictures but they dont show much. The thin metal wire is very loose and it looks as if it has snapped around the regulator so im presuming thats what needs replacing but 100% shure.

Can Anyone confirm it is the regulator ?

It needs a reg.

If it's just the cable snapped and you can't buy that individually it might be worth getting in touch with a local rope supplier or boatyard.
You can have wire ropes made up to length with the correct ferrules crimped on.

Cheers for that, the steel wire in this was not taut as in the picture of that thread it was very loose and moveable. Even my pictures show it to be loose

Same thing happened to mine at the weekend, I went into the dealer today and bought the complete regulator but it looks like it is the plastic bracket on the back of the metal runner which the wire locates into which has broken. Does anyone know if it is available separately?
