Hello Guys

My neighbour who is 80 gave me a pair of roof bars for a Mercedes Benz car (model W210 on a sticker underneath). He got them from his son who said they had been used in some promotion with lights of some sort as he works for McLaren. They have no keys, is it possible to get a key cut or made to order for the bars as they are in good condition and its a shame to bin them. I have listed them on Ebay on behalf of my neighbour but have just been asked about the keys of which I dont have.
I imagine they are genuine as they have a Mercedes star on the sides but hopefully from the pics someone can help me.

Cheers John

Yep defo genuine same as ones i recently bought.
Just looked at my keys and they are numbered suggesting there are loads of variations.
You dont actaully need the keys to use the bar just to unlock the plastic end covers.
So i would say no keys=bars no good:p
The locks only need to be turned 90 degress to release the hook inside.

Hi Partsspecialist, sorry to go off topic, but i believe you had a spoiler for an a class part no: B66881510. Just wondering if you still have it

If the locks have the key number stamped on them, it might be worth trying a proper locksmith (not one of the High St chains!) I deal with one in connection with my job and I never cease to be amazed at what he can come up with with so might be worth searching one out locally.

Hi Joe,

I have just encountered the same problem as you and was wondering which option you went for. Did you source a new key or how difficult was it to change the locks?

Cheers

A bit late - but +1

If you can get the locks off, your local keycutting place/locksmith sould be able to help. I've watched them doing before - with the lock barrel out they have a series of straight blades to insert and judge the height of each lever. They then cut a key to that pattern. 10 minute while you wait job.

I Too have this same nightmare on my hands. Blows my mind that Thule who makes these racks puts a number stamp on the outside of the lock to identify the key code, and these made for MB strategically have no such ID.

I priced these barrels here in the USA, and $72.00, which is highway robbery.

I managed to pick one and get the lock cylinder out of the rack, so I will take it to a locksmith and see if he can work cheaper magic....

The keys for these are very common and cheap. I got my MB ones for £27 on Ebay without keys. I found the key for my Thule box locked the bars also.
