I thought I knew the answer to this, but on my latest insurance quote I have been asked to provide documentary evidence that my 2001 W210 (E220CDi) is fitted with a Cat1 security system.

So to check I downloaded the PDF from Thatcham and don't seem to be able to identify it in the list. Can anyone help?

Here's the link: http://www.thatcham.org/resources/pdfs/compliance.pdf

I'm pretty sure it should comply, especially as the older systems are listed. I don't want to have to bin this quote (expensive private fleet policy) because I can't prove Cat1...

Thanks in advance. :)

Ian.

I very much doubt it is Cat1. I am sure Cat1 systems have to be mandatory auto arming (alarm) for a start.

I suspect it is a Cat2 imobiliser and an uncategorised alarm.

Hmmm... that is interesting, as I don't think any Vauxhalls have auto-arming, yet they are listed. Might be wrong there...

I'm obviously talking about substantially the same system you have in yours (electronic key etc)...

I have always thought mine was non Thatcham on what I said above. I could be wrong.

The very high end Cliffords etc (ie £1000) alarms are not Cat 1 as everything is customisable and you can disable some of the features Cat1 requires to be mandatory.

I would have thought a search would get you the Cat1 requirements.

This site gives very brief specs..

PHEW!!! :o

The answer is there on page 10. W210 is thatcham approved, my vfersion is MBSS 3, which was fitted and is accredited from March 97 onwards. Same system as the W211 and others at that time.

Graham, you'll be pleased to know yours is too! ;)

Good assumption.

Ian.
