Hello folks, looking for some advice.

Looking to replace the standard non-airbag steering wheel on my 92 2.6 190e, with a 39cm leather airbag wheel off a late 190e - believe these are same as the sportline W124 airbag steering wheel?

Have come across the same wheel (in looks at least) off a 1998 W210 Avantgarde - would this be a straight swap or would some jiggery-pokery be needed to make fit onto my 190e?

Don't want the airbag functionality, but obviously the horn and indicator cancel should work

Looks like this one:

yes it will physically fit on the spline. the horn ring earth may require a mod to the wiring but thats 10cm of wire or something - easily done and will become clear upon fitment.

Thanks for the reply SS

Further digging, I found w124performance.com - the pic below suggests it should fit, assuming 124/201 fit is the same

Well thanks to the instructions on the site above, was very straightforward. Had to remove the plastic surround you can see above and transfer the horn ring from the old wheel. Also had to add an earth to the new wheel, easily done.

Not bad for £ 35 and 30 mins

Nice mod

nice. however does the car originally have a drivers airbag?

dont the new MOT rules state that if an airbag is fitted it needs to work correctly (ie warning lights etc) and be factory fit???? or maybe its OK being the other way round (ie if there is one there, not plugged in/working but not an original fit, it will still be OK). you may have to explain to the tester that its a retrofit though as otherwise he may fail it for not having the SRS light etc...

maybe worth checking up on before the next MOT or keeping your old wheel to swap around for the big day ;)

How did you ground the wheel?
