    Lads,

I posted originally in the general discussion form first but it needs to be posted here also. I am thinking of buying a W210 E200 Kompressor but there is a bearing noise coming from the engine and the whine of the supercharger is a bit loud.

    Any idea?

    Regards
    Tolly

If the car sounds off then walk away . Theres loads out there to choose from , and the prices are rock bottom at the moment .
The biggest killer of 210s is rust . They can rust everywhere . I had a nice 210 , but sold it cheap as I could see reust taking hold in places

Trust me on this, get the finest example you can for the money you have. Don't try to bag a bargain with the W210. You'll spend all the money you think you saved plus a shedload more. I have a list of garage bills so long its a joke.

Still a brilliant car, but an expensive one. Best of luck, and hope you find an exemplary model.

Just to add, if you did a search of the posts I made about my problems with the W210, bear in mind there's at least twice as many faults that I haven't even asked about yet. If I did, I think most people would redirect me to Samaritans, never mind a merc specialist. Sorry to go on but if just one potential owner can benefit from my experience then this forum is a better place:)

Thats a real pity now, I was keen on that merc
Not a spot of rust on it and its being sold at a dealer
If I will get warranty on it will it be safer then or still run for the hills?

Well it does sound like a decent example. Must be one of the very few with no rust. Some owner must have managed to enforce the unenforcable 30yr corrosion warranty. But if its got a merc warranty that's the best you could hope for buying used. Have an rac or indy check on it, see if the dealer will straighten up any issues, and cross your fingers and toes as you drive it home. I don't wanna put you off, just

I currently work for Renault Dealer in the Service Department. I will try to get it into the workshop to give it a good going over and its being retailed at a dealer next door. Its a Toyota Dealer tho, when I was talking with the sales man he did not want to hear anything about the work that the car needs he was more interested in a sale.

Came off a bit desperate to be honest seeing as the car has been there since february

Does initially sound a bit suspicious, but maybe it's cos there's a lot of em out there and it's a petrol, where the diesels are more desireable (though also a lot more problematic too, if this forum is anything to go by) so it could be tough to shift for that reason. The bearing noise sounds a bit odd odd, that'd make me worry more than the supercharger as my brother had his SC overhauled for next to nothing. If the bearing grumble is engine based it could spell trouble, but I had a buddy who thought his big end was on it's way out, and it turned out to be a wheel bearing prematurely worn due to the wrong size wheels!

If he wants the sale as much as you want the car though, he'd be mad not to let you check it over.

As far as the car itself though, I do find that when mine is running ok it does everything put together that most other cars do on their own. It's fast as hell, handles like a racing snake, and hauls our huge family around england better like it's a trip to the local shop.

Worst case scenario, if that's a dud, as others said there's plenty out there.

At the same time I dont know if the sound is odd or not because I never drove one or know anyone who has one. So it could be normal, when you give it gas the bearing noise goes away and the SC starts to whine up so maybe its normal or maybe not....

Just wish I could get a day off bring it in the garage and start messing about to try and find if something is wrong.

Talking with a foreman from a local merc dealer to see if he has any idea what it might be and he said that it could be a water pump too and to think about it she did run a tad bit hot when I left it to idle for about 5 mins. It ran a small bit above 80

I had a W210 1999. Great car but battled with rust on it for years. In the end gave up and sold it on. Rust will always return l'm affraid.

Walk away, plenty more "fish in sea" particularly as it has been there for months.
