Has anyone else had an issue with a pipe on the turbo causing lack of power? mine went recently and i took it to an independant who did a temporary repair (lasted 30 minutes) then they got the correct clip from MB and all has been fine for the last four months. Now it would appear that the clip has gone again either that or the turbo (which was replaced by MB 4 years ago)

How it happened this time
When driving the car at 70 all of a sudden there was a large pop and the car lost power. I pulled into the layby and the revs sounded a little off. I pulled back into the lane with the greatly reduced power that was available, a big ploom of black smoke came out to begin with and then dissapeared. The car is driveable but with much reduced power.
There are no warning lights and it does not appear to be in limp home mode which is what happened last time the turbo went.

Any thoughts?

Solved the issue

FYI to anyone else who may come across the issue.

I took the car to an independant MB specialist today.

One of the turbo pipes has blown off again. The clips used to retain the pipe have comne off. Due to excessive wear on the pipe the only surefire way of fixing this one is to replace both clips and pipes. Total is £100 + VAT. Apparently the design is very similar to how VW place their blowers and they can have a similar issue.

At least its cheaper than forking out for a new blower.....

turbo pipe disconnected

hi. i had similar issue. however, initially started as a leak in a pipe leading to the gearbox. so the garage had to take the radiator off and also disconnect the turbo pipe.

then when driving after getting the car back, heard a huge bang and the car would only go slowly and jerk around. took it back. he hadnt fixed the turbo pipe properly. put it back on, but hissing sound was still coming. so tried for a bit longer and it finally seemed liked hissing sound gone. however, drove it for a month without needing full throttle. then on motorway last weekend, tried to put my foot down to overtake and suddenly got the same huge bank and plume of black smoke. yes, the pipe had come of again. very frustrating!!

do you reckon i need a new set of pipes and clips? dont understand why given the huge amount of pressure in the turbo pipes, mercedes dont make the pipes, connections and clips stronger??
