As the front suspension has collapsed on my beloved CLK, I am considering a W211. I reckon that a 220 will be a wee bit underpowered, so am thinking a 270 or 320 cdi, hopefully in Avantgarde trim with full leather and heated seats.
Is their any problems to look for? I can afford a 2004 or 2005 car.

E320, virtually the same MPG etc but a more powerful engine.

I loved my s211 e320 cdi, It was a awesome car did everything really well.

For the price of W211's now... go for the E320 CDI.

I had a 53 plate E320 CDI, great car.

deffo not same MPG but close, but much more difference in performance ;)

Check if its got the SBS brake system and any evidence that the SBS unit has been changed. They have a definite life cycle and can be expensive. As a breaking system lots of drivers like the system though. Also be aware of the 2nd battery for the SBS system, under cabin filter under bonnet.

Check the auto gbox has been serviced. if not budget £250 to get it done.

Usual chacks:
service history
MOT history can tell a lot about how a car has been looked after
look for one with MB dealer history or recognised Indie that's been able to update the on-line service history file.

I've owned both and the 270 is about 10mpg better on a run and about the same locally.

Both great engines though, I'd happily have either in a W211.
