Hi

At 111K miles and no history of the trans fluid ever being changed I thought it may be wise to get it changed.

I know that 'proper' MB fluid would be the way to go but my local specialist says he will use Mobil 1 and a local transmission specialist says he will use only MB fluid.

I guess I should go with the MB only guy but theres no way of telling what he's actually put in; a scr*wed gearbox would be a hell of a way to find out!

Does anyone know of a good specialist they can recommend in the West Lancs/Liverpool area?

Sorry that this is well trodden ground.

Ask him if you can supply the fluid? Then get it from MB Newcastle or MB Grangemouth

Not used them personally Peter as MSL do everything on mine, though I do know many who have and they usually get glowing reports. I have met the owners and they come across as friendly and knowledgeable, though it's been a while since I was last there.

I called MBtech and told them I has an S211. He was puzzled by this so I explained that it was a W211 estate. He told me I was completely wrong and started going on about 210, 211 etc. He then proceeded to tell me the estate was a T model (which I believe it is) but never an S211. This was even before I said what I was after. Kinda put me off a bit.

I only use the MB fluid.
Its a shell product, actually Shell 134 in an MB bottle.
Fuchs also has an equivalent that meets MB's BEVO List
If you take it to an MB specialist shop they no doubt will conform what they are filling into the transmission.
Again as with engine oil --consult on line the Bevo list for approved brands.
all the best to you in West Lancs
(lived there in Tarleton many years ago now)
Tuercas Viejas

This is on the approved list:
Fuchs Titan ATF 4134
