Well I had I had very slight leak on the transmission sump gasket, so I decided to check transmission oil level. I got the temp of sump to 45deg removed the sump plug and about 2.5 lt of oil came out. After plenty of preparation I understood that only a dribble should come out, I have looked into the sump hole and the little plastic stand pipe is still in position so why has so much oil come out, was it overfilled when it was serviced last year ? and I don't know if I should just pump this oil back in or put about a litre back in cycle through the gears and drain till a small amount is coming out. Any help would be appreciated.

Because the engine wasn’t running ? So oil had flowed back to the sump and exceeded the normal level of oil when the engine runs .
The plastic tower sets the oil level at the temp of 45 degrees . If you think it was overfilled you could start with a litre but you will need another 2L on stand by if it wasn’t overfilled (to replace what came out )
Are you not going to put a new transmission gasket in to stop the leak ? You might need 4+L if you remove the sump to do that .

Engine was running and temp was 45 deg. I have just pumped the oil back in until I can get some bits ordered up for a full service. Thanks for your advice W1ghty
