Had the problem with the alarm siren under the o/s wheelarch going off all the time, solved it by unplugging and removing siren, question is can I cause any long term damage by running without the siren fitted ?

Other than to your insurance premium, no.

Was thinking more from an electrical point of view, siren has printed circuit board inside with a couple of batteries on board and quite a few components, hence the question

You wont knacker anything..
I ram my old C class WITHOUT the alarm installed because I had the same fault..
Just protect the plug on the lead from water if you are leaving it without a siren..

I had mine without a siren for over a year..
As and when the current one fails (and it will) then I have NO intention of replacing it !!:D

As DM says, your insurer might have a different view?

Mine failed last year whilst in Switzerland. Thank-you car.

Unplugged it and got a new one when we got home. £68 + vat so no big deal really.

Apparently the little back-up batteries leak and corrode into the PCB. Common fault I'm told.
