W211 AUDIO20 Backlit screens Dim

My Dad's 04 W211 has an odd problem. Both the Audio20 and the heater controls (front seats & the rear seat screen) and virtually impossible to see as the backlights on both are very dim.

No message appearing on the dash about the courtesy battery though, any ideas?

Does the dash clock dimmer switch control these as well?

The cluster is fully visible, but you might be right.

Don't know if it's the same as a W203, but I've noticed all the display lights, including Audio20, centre console, etc., on mine dim at a certain light level, as dusk set in, so it would seem the dimming is activated by the light sensor, but through a separate control unit somewhere I would think.
Doesn't seem to happen in conjunction with the auto lights coming on though.

Yes, I understood that, my thought was, is the light sensor malfunctioning and stuck on dim?
