Hello,
This is a rather long story, but I really need some advice on this, so please bear with me.
It all started about a month after I purchased the car this summer. First symptoms were that car sometimes wouldn't start (dashbord lights all on, engine not turning), which was usually fixed by taking out key and putting in back in, then I could start the car.
I thought that it may be related to skybreak, but after testing, it didn't turn out to be causing the problem.
As time passed this started happening more and more often, till eventually I couldn't start the car anymore. So I brought the car to Mercedes specialist who told it's an ECU problem.
Before changing ECU he explained that when engine couldn't be started it was because ECU couldn't get engine temperature information. And he showed that to me as well - temperature gauge was always with no bars, so he turned the key on and off for quite a few time before eventually temperature gauge showed some bars and car would instantly start.
After that he changed ECU to a unit from salvaged vehicle and said it has to be reprogrammed to fit to this car. He also said that brand new unit would cost around 1000 pounds.
After that everything was good for a while, but then yesterday as I was driving engine just stopped and surely when I tried to turn engine back on the temperature gauge was with 0 bars and car wouldn't start.
And this morning when I tried to start car, it started then after a few moments engine turned off again.
Specialist is once more saying that this is an ECU problem. This time it is a bit different, since car just stopped while I was driving, which had never happened before the first ECU change, if I could start the car, I could drive with it till the fuel runs out.
Could there be something else at fault here?
