E46EBD5F-CD3B-4C9D-9DF8-19E27B541AAE.jpeg looking for some product advice

I’ve just picked up my new 320 cdi

The paint is in pretty poor condition and will need some corrective paintwork

Can anyone recommend a decent cutting product for the Mercedes black paint. I’ve read that it’s quite a hard paint.

I’ve used poor boys black hole as a polish but never cut paint before.

Looking for a DA to keep it safe.

Made a start on my daughters skoda to correct the paint,

Congratulations on the new car. At 11 years old, your car would have been finished with PPG's CeramiClear clearcoat at the factory. You need to be aware it is ridiculously hard but also not very thick. Always use a solution that will remove the absolute minimum of clear coat to correct aproblem. You can't put back what you take off and you need to leave sufficient meat on the bone to correct future problems that may arise. A dual action polisher is essential if you are going to make any headway. For German paint a D.A. with a short 8mm orbital throw couple to a powerful 900W motor would be the way to go so have a look at the DAS6 Pro type of machine.

I like the newer nano technology auto-diminishing polishes as they give a good initial cut then breakdown as you work it to further refine the finish. This way you only have to go around the car once. The German polish manufacturer Scholl Concepts is one of the market leaders. Have a look at their S20 Black All-in-One polish. Couple this with a green Chemical Guys Hex-Logic Quantum pad and you will definitely be going in the right direction. That is the pad used by finishers on the Mercedes production lines.

Poorboys Black Hole isn't a polish, it is a glaze. It has no cutting power and acts as a filler to fill scratches to make them less noticeable. It is only a short term fix and is a favourite with show cars for that last minute pop in competitions. I prefer .50 CAL as it has a greater concentration of fillers. Your last stage protection (LSP) has minimal bearing on the final finish as the polishing effort produces 99% of the shine. For a black coloured car most people prefer the warmer mile-deep gloss that a natural carnauba wax will deliver over the retina-searing gloss of a synthetic was although a hybrid wax like Dodo Juice Black Widow may provide the middle ground you seek.
