Car
E270 CDI (W211) Silver
Can any body help me?
I recently retro-fitted comand to my 2003 E270 CDI (W211) I installed the head unit, DVD drive, small wiring harness no problem, already had audio gateway and MOST cables to the boot.
When i start the car 95% of the time i am greeted by the message "Navigation Device unavailable" If i go into the boot with the ignition on and unplug the MOST cable connector from the rear of the DVD unit and plug back in, the head unit immediately recognises it and functions perfectly.
Any body any idear what could be wrong?

Memory problem or coding required....just guessing

Your car almost certainly needs the MOST bus coding.

Thank You for the advice.
Can coding only be carried out by main dealer? Is it a difficult task?

Thanks

Any one with STAR will be able to do it.

If you fancy a quick trip down to Surrey we can do it for a very very modest fee plus enable other 'hidden' features ;)

Alternatively your local dealer can do it for you. They will probably charge 1/2 hours labour. All you need is the AGW coded so that the MOST ring is properly coded to reflect the devices on it. This assumes that everything is wired up correctly and there are no hardware faults of course.

Did you get a dual tuner AGW so you can use TMC?

Thanks for your offer.
I am due to do some work next week in Southampton i could drop in then. I am not sure about the audio gateway it was in when i purchased the car.
How much notice would you need for me to pop the car across?

Thanks

Wayne

Just one thing to think about, did you use the genuine fibre between the AGW and the navigation processor ? It needs to be quite a long fibre optic cable as it needs to attenuate the signal slightly apparently

A couple of days should be enough. Thursdays are always easier for us.

The supplier i purchased the wiring harness from also suggested that i could try an optic cable extension. But he also added that he had supplied lots before the same make up but had never had this problem reported>
He suggested checking all MOST connections, which i have done and having the unit coded.

Thanks

Wayne
