W211 COMAND problem

Hi all, I own a Japan spec 03' W211 E240 which comes with COMAND. Last week one of my disc stucked in the CDC, the CDC keep ejecting and loading whilst the disc was still sticking in there, at last I managed to take the CD out from the slot, but strange things happened. The whole COMAND is seems dead!! When I press the power switch, I can barely see the LCD screen turned to black, just it won't show the MB logo or booting page (originally in a very dark green when not switched on), so I assume it's not the electricity problem. Also, when I press the cover button under the hazard light, the cover won't pop-up.... Manage to get a scanner from my mechanic friend, get it diagnosed and come out with these codes,

Fault code Description

D102. MOST component at position 2 reports open ring

D010. [c1, 1,d0, 10], Please refer to the relevant manual

D117. Specified / actual configuration of MOST cannot be located

So any idea about this?? Thanks in advance.

Ultimate_W210 - you need to look what the component before the component at position 2 is - and its failed (which requires the diagnostic machine again). But quite likely its the CDC as thats what was playing up.

I dont know how Japanese COMAND behaves when the ring is broken, but it could well do what your are saying. The cover pop-up is controlled by the audio system because you don't want to eject disks into a closed compartment.

Richard, thanks for the advice.... Yup, I assumed that the MOST between JDM, EDM and USDM for the same MB model should be the same, they ares sharing same principle with different types of HU.... Maybe you are right, as I dismantled the CDC's from the tray and took off the slot cover (the black face CDC cover with 1-6 buttons) in order to clear the jammed disc. Will give it a try and see whether I can solve the problem? Thanks again!!

ok, managed to dismantle all the things, seems all the wire connection is ok.... but when i switch on the HU, one of the two orange F.O cable is blinking in red, only one and not two...... have done all the F026 & F006 fuse trick, still no luck at all...... Perhaps a new CDC is all what i need??

Only one will blink, as one is the input and one is the output - so you are seeing "data" from the previous unit.

There is a tool for looping this to test (i.e you loop out the CDchanger then you know if it was broken)

Fibre optic looping tool for MOST bus | Tools | Mercedes Retrofits | Comand Online Ltd

Or you can go visit comand.co.uk in Surrey/Berkshire border if you are anywhere near

Hi mate, I just get the looping cable by today, how m I suppose to test it?? Any guide for this?? Should I took off the black fibre optic cable from the CDC and use the looping cable to bypass at the socket with orange fibre optic cables connected to the HU? Thanks in advance.

Unplug the fibre plug from the back of the CDC and plug the fibre into the loop. If you got the loop from us, there is an extra shell plugged into the loop which you need for certain fibre connectors (but not the CDC connector) so unplug that first.

If the system then works (obviously not the CDC) , it was the CDC at fault

If it still doesn't, plug it back in and try the phone controller, the Nav drive etc all in turn

On things like the phone controller the fibre plug is much bigger, and you need to unclip the 2 pole fibre insert connector from the big one and put it in the extra shell and plug it into the loop.

Obviously, but rarely, you can get multiple units failing so all our guys in the workshop have 3 or 4 loops !!

Thx Richard for your prompt reply..... Additional info which might help.....

Code

9116 - fault in CAN communication with control unit N72/1 (upper control panel Control unit)

9117 - Fault in CAN Communication with control unit Telecommunications

9126 - fault in CAN communication with control unit audio gateway

I also get these codes from the scanner......

I have also check the power source for the CDC (the cable which includes 3 wires, red, brown n black) which shows 13v and 14v respectively..... But when I connect the power socket to the CDC, the CDC. Is not working at all, even the fan behind the CDC is not functioning...... Does this means I have a dead CDC??
