W211 Comand Update/DVD/Player problem...

No, the part you have linked to is the loader for the Comand NTG1 headunit itself.

Your issue is with the laser in the navigation unit in the boot. How do you know the laser / loader part being sold for the Comand NTG1 headunit is the same for the navigation drive unit in the boot?

That is the device you need the loader / laser for.

Ah, I think I get it now. You mean the headunit in the dash, am I right. I forgot that there 2 DVD loaders in the car. I haven't a clue what's in the nav/dvd unit in the boot. Having just climbed in the boot and slid it out I can at least confirm that it is a 6059 which matches Troon's euromerc part.

What is the little black box on top of the unit above with 2 little buttons and a 2 digit digital display?

I think you should read the cars owners manual.

The other day I stupidly thought that maybe if I put the old v3.0 disc in, and it ran OK, it might help eliminate the player as the problem. Plonker! I put disc in, drove off and while on journey turned on the SatNav. To my horror I see the Update screen. I quickly turn off the unit, pull over and take disc out. I have put the v7.0 back in but, not surprisingly, have the ‘No DVD’ message.
Q1, can I resolve my immediate problem by just using those update discs I have? Or have I blitzed my unit?

Where have you been changing the disc then?

Not entirely sure why I should read the owners manual because, having read it already several times, I know that it doesn't list any breakdown of the component parts of the Comand system, and doesn't list any part no.s. I am very happy to be corrected on that point, however.
My confusion came about with the reference to 'headunit loader' as I had forgotten that there is a dvd unit built in to the Comand unit. Apart from playing the odd kid's dvd I have only ever used that drive when I updated the firmware with the MB discs that I mentioned in my OP when I upgraded to v7.0.

The v3.0 went into the nav unit in the boot. That's where I understood the nav map disc to go but again if I'm wrong happy to be corrected. :)
I meant I don't know what parts, and their No.s, are inside that boot unit. I can see how it could be mis-read.

npuk, I think our wires have been crossed for the last few posts.
Normal service has been resumed!

I ran the navunit update disc that I had previously used for v7.0 and it seems to have brought the unit back to life. Driving around the next few days will test the unit to see how long it lasts. I am waiting for Nick at euromerc to get back to me.
