E280 **********e
Hi Everyone,

I own a 2006 E280 petrol that has been sitting idle for the last two years because of a faulty Xenon ballast. I finally got around to replacing it after removing the bumper cover, protective covers etc etc. It turns out, I could have gotten away with only removing the floor cover but there we go. But thoroughly enjoyable and satisfying job, I never repaired a car in my life but I'm quietly pleased with myself. So I then booked it in for MOT and it failed on 3 bad tyres and a corroded NSF brake pipe.

Tyres will have to be outsourced of course, but I'm thinking about tackling the brake pipe myself. Is anyone away of a procedure/manual etc that will explain the steps to take? Youtube is usually a hive of information but not it seems on this occasion, maybe its too complicated...?? My car has SBC if it makes any difference.

Thanks in advance!

Best, Andrew

Routing that pipe back to the sbc. Is a tough job. If you can chop out the bad and join in the new.

Something I'd be outsourcing to be honest, especially with your admittedly limited knowledge.

Fitting the pipe "should" be straightforward enough but bleeding it afterwards is something of a dark art on the SBC system apparently. I'll add that it's not something I've done personally, only read about somewhere, but I remember being extremely cautious just changing the pads on one a few years ago.

Bleeding the Mercedes SBC system can only be done properly with a Star. If you could be absolutely certain no air had got back into the SBC unit itself - clamped off a rear flexi hose to replace a caliper, say - it might be OK, but replacing a front rigid pipe? No chance, I'm afraid.

SBC may have been removed on a 2006 car. That was the changeover year but no idea on the exact date.

I'd still leave it to a pro though.

Thanks everyone, looks like its best left for an expert! Anyone have any idea of what I should expect to pay an independent specialist?
