Hi, in my 54,e320 CDI estate,I am experiencing crabbing from the backend when hitting holes in the road it's only momentary but annoying, it's air suspension on the back only, I've also noticed just today that the outer 40 mm on the offside tyre is bald, the other side is not as bad but getting there, no tread wear anywhere else, would all that have anything to do with the change of wheels from standard size to 245'45'17s on a 20 mm spacer ? Have also got some vibration which rises and falls mainly at high speed !!. Incidentally wheels were all balanced etc when new tyres were fitted 6 months ago. Any suggestions would be most appreciated. Thanks.

Why the need for 20mm spacers? 245 45 17 is a standard size for W211.
Anyway, it could be a number of things.
Worn balljoints, bushes, subframe mounts, shock absorbers gone? I'd suggest getting the car in the air and use a pry bar to check every joint and check the shocks for leaks.
Also, using wheel spacers can put undue stress on the bearing, check this for excess play too.

Hiya, thanks for that, reason for the spacers is I bought a set of 10 spoke AMG wheels second hand but when trying to fit them discovered the front ones fouled the callipers and the rears fouled the shocks ( obviously a bit new to this game ) . Anyway, thanks for the advice, Andy.

Have you managed to find any faults yet? I've had a similar experience (minus the tyre and wheel spacer issue) and have been slowly replacing worn components. I started with the shocks. Then the lower outer rose bushes. They've had a little improvement each time. It's been leading up to what I believe is the main culprit, subframe bushes. Specialist tool req, hence the delay.

Get your 4 wheel alignment checked, the toe on the rear is adjustable

Hiya, unfortunately I haven't had a chance to look into it yet, especially after looking into changing bushes and control arms and discovering how much special equipment is required to de pressurise the system.

Symptoms point to excessive rear suspension toe in- some modern AMG Mercedes suffer from this in standard configuration. [ it helps rear end stability] Your wheel spacers may have caused this slight alteration of suspension geometry? These guys may be able to help

Thanks for that.

Yep i just had these adjusted, if youre very lucky they wont shear off, and if they dont they will give you 2-3mm of adjustment.

So today i ordered one of these £25 SBC reset tools that you plug into the OBD port and it clears the c249f code "operating time of component A7/3 (SBC hydraulic) is exceeded" , you know the thing you get charged £150 for to reset the sbc runtime?? so hopefully that will be a step in the right direction, i also ordered a replacement lateral speed/yaw sensor as my icarsoft mb2 suggested that the b24/15 component was faulty aswell as giving me a c249f fault code for my sbc.

Has anyone used one of these cheap SBC rest tools?

Ill keep you posted either way...
