Anil found a website in Germany for W211's. On it I found this picture. Very thought provoking - it appears to show the result of a crash at 150 kph between W211 and a Police Skodia Felicia. I know which car I would want to be in....any German translation of the following available?

The picture is too big for this forum and so follow this link and go to "Galerie"

http://www.w211.de/index.html

Google translates that to:

Mercedes E270CDI after Crash with a Czech police patrol car (Skoda Felicia) with 150 km/h. The passengers of the e-class did not outlive, the three policemen in the Skoda unfortunately. The picture should everyone, which makes clear which a larger vehicle moved it for a damage arrange can, if he does not umgent thereby eight-SAM. In particular in an accident with a small car. I hope the fact that the picture or of it reminds others, which consequences alcohol can have tax and superelevated speed to.

That sounds like everybody died?:(

Unfortunately, at that sort of impact speed it is the internal organs that suffer the most extensive damage.

That does look nasty :(

A better translation shows the E Class occupants survived, but the police didn't.

Mercedes E270CDI after Crash with a Czech police vehicle (Skoda Felicia) at 150 km/h. The inmates of the E-class survived, the three policemen in the Skoda unfortunately did not. The picture shows that a larger vehicle moved klarmachen, what it can cause for a damage, if it therewith not attentively umgent. Especially in an accident with a little vehicle. I hope that the picture remembers the one or other on that, which sequences alcohol at the tax and superelevated have can speed

Translation goes something like this (remembering my A level German):

"Mercedes E270CDI after a collision with a Czech police car at 150 k.p.h. The occupants of the the E-Class survived, the three policemen in the Skoda unfortunately did not. The picture should make clear to anyone who drives a larger car how much damage it can do if it is not driven carefully, particularly in the event of an accident involving a smaller car. I hope the picture will remind anyone of the possible consequences of driving under the influence of alcohol or at excess speeds."

Banal statement to accompany a dreadful picture.

1 flat Fabia - 1 safety-cell-intact E-Class.

(Don't u just like love artificial translations?...)

I was shown these pictures many, many months ago. I cannot remember whether the E-class was stolen or the driver simply drunk. The pictures are terrible, but the safety designs incorporated into the 211 need no explanation. I believe that most of the doors still opened and shut highlighlighting just how well the vehicle is designed.

Having said this three innocent people were killed by someone that should not have even been on the road.

Devon and Cornwall Police have just purchased a number of so called high performance Skoda's!!! I had to check the report to make sure it was not dated April 1st. These photographs should be shown to the person responsible for the decision.

The Felicia shown in the picture is an "old school" car and doesn't have anywhere near the crash protection of any modern car.
The new Skodas are as safe as any other car on the road of their size.

Don't forget the last star in the NCAP rating is often made up of small detail, not main structure rigidity.

I suppose I am old fashioned and a Skoda is a Skoda, is a Skoda. I wonder what the resale value of these vehicles will be and will there be a rush to grab the keys of this very safe vehicle?

Perish the thought that Traffic Police officers might be a bunch of posers!!! No doubt they won't mind driving them :D

Nice to see the Police Authority are buying cheap vehicles. Who knows the Chief Constables might even be chaffuered in economical diesel powered Skoda's. :D

A Skoda is a Skoda is a VW is a SEAT is an Audi these days ... excellent build quality & VW reliability, ultra-economical in 1.9 TDI form, seriously quick in 5 or 6 cylinder modes, roadholding in 4x4 up there with the best of them. You wait till they revive the Tatra marque ... the Czech Cadillac

Gruesome - but don't forget that these pics are after the rescue crews are done. They'll be the ones that have chopped the roof, doors, dash, seats out of the Skoda not the impact with the Merc.
None the less, I'm sure the Skoda would've been heavily damaged before the 'jaws of life' destroyed it completely. Wonder who (if any) were wearing seatbelts?

Why do I drive a 5 metre long, two ton behemoth? Cos when it happens I want to walk away and to be honest don't much care what state the other folk are in as long as me and my family survive (that sounds pretty mean...but it's true).
Fingers crossed the other party isn't a 40 ton truck but then I'd still rather be in the Merc than a Mini Metro. In fact I think I'd have more chance on a bicycle than a Mini Metro.

Interesting comments John.

The Skoda Fabia has the highest resale value of any car in it's class, and the Superb beats the Passat in both resale and driving enjoyment.
The Fabia VRS has a "cult" following and they are hard to come by at a sensible price secondhand, probably something to do with it thrashing the nuts off a Mini Cooper and having more torque than a Porshe Boxter. :D

Skoda used to build exceptionally good cars and tanks before they were taken under the communist wing.
Skoda were the only company licenced to build Hispano-Suza cars when they were the pinnacle motor car of the world.

Skoda Fabia, VW polo and Seat Ibiza all share the same chassis and have 4 star NCAP crash ratings, not to be confused with the Felica (old Skoda)
