I have a W211 E320CDi in line 6 which keeps going into limp mode although no CEL comes on.

The symptoms are the car goes normally for about 5 mins and then won't rev past 2000 RPM

I have had a look at most possible/probable causes and I have an idea that the cause may be the DPF Pressure Sensor which is mounted behind the air filter box close to the ATF dipstick tube. It has two small diameter hoses connected to it.

It seems that this item , part number A005 153 77 28, was the subject of a MB recall because it was prone to failure but I'm fairly sure mine was never changed

Today I unclipped the power to the sensor and the car exhibited the same symptoms I had been experiencing AND the CEL light didn't come on

These seem to be about £50 each so I just wanted to try and assess whether I'm on the right track before I go ahead and change it

Proper diagnosis using STAR is the only way, otherwise one is simply guessing.

If only it was that easy .It was put on Star and nothing came up.

My 211 done this exact same thing although mine is the 3.0 v6 diesel so may be different, but mine was an exhaust back pressure sensor that kept getting oil drip on it through an oil leak, at a Mercedes specialists for a new seal for the oil leak and back pressure sensor it was around £150 so not end of the world.

I know the DPF pressure sensor is a common failure on the V6 - it went on our Vito at 64k miles, putting it into limp mode.

Luckily I don't have a dpf pain in the ass things.
