Hi everyone!

Had my merc for over a year now with no trouble, so figured it's time to try to sort the one thing that really annoys me...

I regularly listen to podcasts in the car from my iphone, which i have plugged in to the aux socked in the glovebox.

However, the volume level is so low, even turned up full, that with a window open, or even on a noisy road or with traffic around, I just can't hear anything - the volume output of the aux is so low, and is WAY lower than the output from other modes like radio or cd (which means when I've been listening to something on the ipod and then flick over to CD everyone in the car and neighbouring streets gets deafened!)

I have heard there is an accessible menu to boost the audio output from the aux - does anyone know if this is true, and of so, how do I access it, and what would I press to increase the aux volume output?

It sounds a small thing, but, without being able to listen to podcasts on my long drives, , it's really wrecking the enjoyment of the car a little!

any help appreciated!

for the record, it's the audio 20 with the colour lcd screen, as shown in the pic (not exactly the same, but pretty much), and the car is a late 2009 E220D Avantgarde W211!

I had exactly the same problem and ipod and iphone were useless.

Sorry to say that mine was only resolved when I changed phone, my HTC One is tons better. Maybe try someone else's phone or player to see if it's any better?

You need to increase the volume on the device you're playing the music from ... higher than for normal earphones. That worked for our iPods, anyway.

It is not true, unfortunately for many.
The options are, boost the signal with an inline device, fit a secondary gateway, add iPod module, add Media Interface (both of these are MB items) or change the head unit.

Have a word with Mercedes Retrofit Specialist - Comand.co.uk who can offer all of the above and if you have IM or MI fitted by them, they can update your car's data card to show this as an official option.

This has been my experience too. You will also have the variables of the bitrates of the files on your device.

On the W211 this is not enough to bring an ipod/iphone up to the same volume as the radio/CD hence my comment about trying other devices.

It seems that Apple devices just don't work well with this model, I found the other options too expensive although they will integrate better with the car's audio display I understand.

My preference would be a change of device, at least you keep it long after the car has been traded in for a newer one.

anyone ever tried this? was just reading up a little more...

key has to be in 1st position : push and hold: Hang up (end) , 1, and # at the same time

move the max volume level under the sound / entertainment menu all the way up to 85

no idea if it works or not, but interested to give it a go tomorrow!

Bit late to the party but I've been having the same issue. I've just bought a Topping NX2 (£36.99). It's a powered inline headphone amplifier. (link).

I have it plugged into a USB charger in the glovebox (although the battery lasts for ages) and then it goes into the Aux socket. You then plug your device into the line in - iPhone 6 in my case. It makes a HUGE difference, can't recommend it enough. It comes with the cables you need and 3M pads to stick it to something. I've tucked mine away at the side of the glovebox.

Hope this helps!

I have a small headphone valve amplifier, complete with 12v to 24v transformer, etc to boost the volume.

I didn't know the volume could be boosted from a firmware update. I'll have to look into this more.

Topping NX2 was a great solution much improved sound on my 2003 e class many thanks Hitby.
