W211 e270 Boost pipe rock hard - Black smoke, low power

I was given a 2005 E270 with injector problems which had been sitting for 6 months and have been having a nightmare time trying to get it running properly. I had 2 injectors reseated at my local garage but sadly the engine is running badly and I have plenty of thick black smoke both on tick over and under acceleration. My mechanic is sure there is a blockage in the inlet manifold and says the pipe from the turbo is rock hard, he replaced the boost sensor but that made no difference. I took the car to a local Mercedes specialist who connected the car to their STAR computer and said that the manifold looks fine to them but one of the injectors was over fueling so today I had that injector replaced. It made no difference. My local garage says the next step is to take off the manifold, but they will only do this if I have a replacement ready or a swirl flap delete kit as they don't have a lot of space to keep the car. I am nervous about spending a fortune on a manifold (£300 + VAT from Eurocarparts) whenever it might not even sort the problem & I've spent hours on Google and can't find a swirl flap delete kit. I've had other issues with the car which have now been sorted but am quickly running out of money :-/ Should I take a chance on a second hand manifold off ebay? Is there a swirl flap delete kit available anywhere? Could something else be causing the black smoke / power loss / pipe pressure?

So I had the car back on STAR at the specialist, strangely it is still showing the same no. 3 injector with the same problem :-( Before I get another injector fitted I would like to find out what is causing the excessive pressure in the turbo pipe. It was recommended I take the car to a local exhaust specialist & have the cat removed as it could be blocked, once there they said they could only remove the lower cat but that would still leave the large DPF up at the manifold. I have since read that my car doesn't have a DPF!! The guy there said there was a lot of heat around the airbox and he was sure the DPF was at fault.

The local car breakers have offered me £75 for the car and I am seriously considering taking it.

You car hear the turbo in the video and there is also a rattle after revving the engine.

That would cover the cost of one single used door mirror! That offer is a bit light... I would persevere.

I know :-(. My e220 needs a window mechanism so I'll salvage that off the car first.

I've had it at Creevy Autos twice, they were very busy but still helped me out by scanning it on the computer. They said they'd need a full day to look at it properly so it's booked in for the 3rd of September. Fingers crossed. If that doesn't work then it's off to the scrap yard.

Get them to clean the egr...for all that Stephen is great at what he does, it wasn't until I insisted he clean my egr (on an e320cdi) that the car was fixed.

OK Well the car is in Creevy Autos today & I'm feeling nervous.

Spent the entire weekend cleaning it, clay bar, Meguars paint clean, polish then wax, it's a beautiful car which would be a sin not to keep.

Out of interest, which pipe was rock hard?
Sounds more like injector problems to me, definitely doesn't sound happy at the higher revs. How did they check the other injectors were sealing ok?
If the CAT/exhaust was that badly blocked and the fumes couldn't get away, it would hardly run.

You are correct! NO MORE SMOKE!! Creevy Autos replaced the No.3 injector and all is fine. The injector that my local garage had fitted a few weeks back was black & pitted plus the copper washer was about twice the thickness it should be. (I'm worried now about the washers on the other 2 injectors they re-seated) Creevy say the engine is fine and there is no problem with the boost pipe which is strange considering what my local garage had said.

I have been struggling with this for 2 months with 2 local garages and had been told to seriously consider cutting my losses & scrapping it. I can't believe it was such an easy repair, needless to say I wish i'd taken it to Creevy weeks ago.

Glad to hear you have it sorted! At least it should future proof it having the extra injectors reseated. Some places use extra thick washer to try and create a better seal better the head and injector. Can't believe someone would give it back to you sounding like that.

Told you Creevy Autos would get you sorted! I've said before, you'll not get a fancy cappuccino, or croissant there, but if you want your car expertly attended to, they'll not let you down...
