Hello everyone,
i browsed few treads on different MB forums, but here we are..
Today i "got" noise sound from turbo area. Video is not mine, but sound is exact same:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qCd6OHzfnCU

i read all comms there, nothing useful, and owner of that video he stated that he used just turbo cleaning kit, nothing been replaced..

Before going after "nice" bill for turbo replacement, i want to discuss it with you guys. There is no dash warnings, there is no power loss, there isn't any oil leaks. I don't drive a lot lately with car, in terms of mileage. 1 month ago, car went into limp mode, but after engine restart, everything worked fine till today (that sound). Car doesn't go into limp mode now, everything normal. Sound can be heard when sitting in a car, when standing near opened bonnet, it's not that noisy..I didn't got i fault code yet. Any ideas what's happening, and maybe there is some sort of steps like turbo cleaning kit etc. before replacing turbo?

Cheers.

They can make whistling noises for thousands of miles still working perfectly well.

There could be internal damage to the vanes , usually clipped by the VNT's moving in to the the path of them due to sticking or someones over adjusted the actuator arm.

Stripping the turbo's straight forward to inspect it and give it a internal clean, there's a PDF file I have showing the basics.

I have replaced many turbos due to whistling purely because the customers didn't like the noise "police car siren effect" 90% i stripped were damaged internally.

Thank you for very professional answer.

Budget a bit tight at the moment. Last month had "luck" to replace waterpump, so i replaced all main pulleys, belt as well..At the end of the month, my plan was to: tax+mot engine oil change, air filters, rear brake pads..
Like i said, i don't drive a lot now, just running around town with basic home things to sort out.
Can car be driven at this point for some time?
If yes - what possible problems i'm facing regarding turbo issue in case turbo will totally die till i will have a chance buy it and replace it?
You see, i would prefer try to clean turbo before replacing, but again, i'm not gonna do it by myself (maybe worth it to try?), so it will cost me to remove turbo, cleaning kit, and if nothing will change, this is total waste of money, that i will have pay one more time for removing cleaned faulty turbo and replace it with good one. Well, you left me those 10% when turbo's with this issue been fixed without buying new one :) Let's say that there is not internal damage, where i have to look for existing problems? I think diagnostic won't give actual answer, it will say that there is a problem somewhere turbo system related and it won't point out exact problem - for example hose or what else there can be somewhere something wrong..

Cleaning it wont stop the whistling/noise.

Driving its up to you, as I said they can last for thousands of miles they just get noisier.

A hose is usually a whooshing noise like air escaping followed by a fault code/engine management light on.

Here's the VNT clean up pdf its for VW but is still relevant just ignore the manifold stuff and take note of separation of the casing and cleaning of the vnt parts.

Thank you for your answer once again. Well, found good reconditioned turbo from one online sellers, it's 330+24 months warranty with my old turbo exchange. Will be buying it soon. My current turbo, is noisy 1.5k rpm till 2k rpm, on a long run, it's works without noise at all.

Always get a "hands on" diagnosis from a competent independent or MB Dealer before buying expensive parts.

:)
