W211 E55 Airmatic problem - visit workshop!

If you don't mind me asking what did it cost to get this repaired?

I'm only asking as my S211 has Airmatic and I was getting the same message. The car never dropped until last night when the front drivers side wheel was in wheel arch. The mesage on the dash was 'Stop car too low to drive'.

The other wheels are ok.

Any help would be appreciated.

Hello Les.

My mechanic didn't charge me anything so I can't tell you how much it cost. He's a top bloke and always willing to go the extra mile but he's not daft; if he hasn't charged me it's because it cost him hardly anything to fix. He's not that generous. :D

Mines now in the garage. Front drivers strut failed with the near side on its way out.
Ordered the front air suspension struts today. Hopefully car back on Wednesday or Thursday.
Will keep you updated.

ouch!, did you consider getting the struts fron Arnott?

how much are they struts?

I had to have two changed on my E500, from memory they are about £1000 a corner, thankfully mine were covered by my Tier 1 warranty. I daresay AMG ones will be more expensive.

Holy sh*t. I'm glad they weren't the problem with mine.

How much are the ones from Arnott?

I do nt think Arnotts will ship over seas anymore ,they where running out of core units to rebuild as over seas buyers where not sending their old struts as the postage was greater than the core value offered by Arnotts .

Their website still states they ship internationally... :dk:

As stated, they used to charge $100 deposit refundable on the exchange units, but the shipping costs meant a lot of customers didn't bother to send their units back. They do replacement E55 rear air springs which are not exchange, but they state they do not ship the front struts internationally. Also ABC struts are exchange only.

I've read they are a very helpful company, and perhaps after checking the cost of return shipping they might be persuaded to ship if you left them a larger deposit. Not sure on the Duty and VAT on recon parts. Might not be economical to buy a recon part for £450 if there is a lot of VAT and shipping charges

When I spoke with a local indy who bough struts from these a few times he told me they cost around 500 euro after postage and VAT was added .

Thought about it but it was not worth my while. Plus I need the car back quickly

Struts work out be just over a grand each fitted. I did a bit of research and found the same ones sourced from Bilstein. I spoke to the UK office and they were working out to be £720.00 each + fitting. Approx 2 hrs per strut.

Bilstein told me that they supply the part to Mercedes and it carries the same part number.

I did the same research when the rear ones went. Unfortunately they don't carry them in stock in the UK and was looking around 2 weeks for delivery.

Also taking into account that the Indy would not cover the warranty on parts supplied. So I guess to plat safe I got them to supply the parts.

Hopefully pick up car tomorrow. Will keep you updated.

My cars just done 103K.

Picked it up today and it drives like a beauty. Really enjoying the full benefits of Air Suspension.

Forgot to mention that The AA covered the first £500 of the repair under their Breakdown Repair Cover. Been with The AA now nearly 20 years and they have never let me down.

Good to see that the original struts made it past 100k miles!
