W211 E55 AMG engine whine.

Hi,I am a new member and a new owner of an E55.
Its a great car with full history and shows no faults.
It has a whine from the engine which I can't pin down.I am aware that the SC is loud on start and then quietens down but there is an underlying whine when warmed up.I have checked the various pulleys and bearings with the belts removed and apart from replacing the SC tensioner have found no fault. Have other members experienced this ? Any ideas ?

Whine is the heavy duty oil pump. As Alps suggests - listen to other ones at idle.

It should always be there. I thought the E55 I bought was knackered already when I first heard it start!

This clip ^^^ perfectly demonstrates the "normal" oil pump whine you hear.

Mine was the same.

@Gav - I always love the point where the ECU decides to reign in the revs - at 42s in your clip. Always listen for that bit on clips.

Still one of the best cars of all time!

I heard a 66 plate Dodgy Charger earlier with a very loud exhaust - just doesn't sound as good to my ears.
