w211 e55 front air strut oil leak?

My n/s front leg base is wet with oil. Are these air struts oil filled as well?

nope just air, your shock itself sounds like its knackered, arnott do well priced replacements and mb now also do refurb units.

Front struts on the estate are oil filled and air controlled, I'd imagine the strut is leaking fluid from the sealed part of the strut.

So the strut must be air and oil then as it's one whole assembly?

Yes either way if you have air failure or oil failure on the front you will need a complete strut, as above Mercedes now do reconditioned units, your rear are seperate air bellow and damper.

£480 for the Arnott strut and just over £600 from MB both recon units.
