Hi all, Have to say that the performance of my E55 is nothing less than stunning and whenever Ive mentioned possibly wanting to get more power from it to people who have been in it...they look at me as if Im sum sort of mad man! but hey its one of those things..."if you can then you must" lol.

I first started looking at remaps which seam to have gains of around 30bhp and 20-30lb torque....I then stated looking at Pully's and re-maps and have to say that my head is spinning with everybody quoting different gains, huge differences in costs! and slagging other tuning company's off! everybody seams to be the best in their opinion

So what I after please is some feedback from any of you guys which have done some modifactions to your E55's ( Ive seen a couple with pully's etc sofar) and find out whats good and what not + who you'ld recommend??!

Have to say a basic remap and a de-limit would be more than ok but dont no who's the most genuine and reputable to use, and at a push (as in my budget) the Kleemann K1 pully + remap or simular??

Thanks in advance chaps :thumb:

Bishy, enjoy it first, then play when you start getting bored :) scorcher and andy_cyp are the guys who have tinkered on this forum with their 55`s.

Seen scorchers before, think he just sold that one?? Bit over my budget what he did to his too! nice bit of kit mind

or alternatively there are surgical procedures available in the usa that can satisfy your needs :D.

but seriously, i have driven a couple of sl55amg missiles and cannot imagine needing more.

Is there??.........do tell! lol, yea I no its mad but hey lol

Theres VRP in the US which comes with a very good reputation. In the UK there is DMS.
I enquired about about a pully and remap and from memory it was all up about 3k including VAT.

I called DMS a while back about the E55 and ive also spoken to them regarding previous cars that ive owned and ive always been dubious about their claims (mostly on normally aspirated cars) and high prices! or is it just me??

DMS do however have a very good reputation apparently or so I hear but I have read several forums that say otherwise!. Maybe its just very good marketing and features in car mags such as EVO etc???. Anybody tell me otherwise??

The problem I have with a lot of remap claims from various companies is the perception of power...by this I mean thats all remaps will sharpen the throttle response which will make the car feel faster on its own! even if no real gain has been made in terms of BHP etc.

To prove this I let my best mate (who likes cars but is not very clued up on how they work! lol) drive my old BMW Z4 M coupe and I told him that the "sport button" added 25 BHP...he said "cor yea you can really feel the difference" nuff said.

Sorry think that I went into a bit of a rant there! lol,

Anyway getting back, was quoted £2700 for the Kleemann K1 quoted 550hp (think more like 520) and 555lb torque! and evo-s quoted me £2200 and + 80 bhp (website quotes +60 but they say that they had 80 out of a SL55) and 100lb torque!

Oh that VRP looks like bloody good stuff, Im sure the hardwear will be fairly easy to get hold off?? not so sure about the software mind...bum lol

Just who do you believe eh?:wallbash:

thanks for the imput guy's keep it coming please + any other tuners that you can use in the UK, as people say lots in the states

To get VRP hardware you have to have it sent over fromt he US. Scorcher had all there stuff on his E55k car when he sold it.
I am still toying with the idea and getting it chipped with a new pulley but thinking sevral other factors like insurance, wear and tear, cost etc.
Also its a cost you are never going to get back when you sell the car.

Thats exactly what Im thinking that its as you say money you wont get back etc so may just do a remap BUT after being late for a family meal today some 30 miles away...im not sure that it needs it to be honest! these as silly quick as it is! lol

Ive not posted any quotes for just a remap, the prices that ive quoted on here are for pully's and a remap ic fitting etc.

Been quoted from £350-£500 for a remap on a fully fitted and tested and a "we come to you basis". Power figures and odd claims on how they come to their figures range from 20-35bhp and 20-45Nm

One company said thats they electronicly close some waste gate type flap in the back of the supercharger which helps to give about 1lb more boost?? completly lost me....is this BS??!
t
Also nobody ever has proof i;e dyno's etc to back up their gains and whenever Ive ask they've said we'll e-mail you one and never do!.

What information do you have on yours??

Bishy, I struggle to get the power down in anything but bone dry conditions in my E55. I wonder whether increasing the power further will make matters worse? I would first get bored of the power you have then look at mods. From the reading I have done, Renntech, Kleeman, and ASP are good for about 45bhp for a basic remap, and pulley kit. The thing to note, is that (again from the Stateside forums) stock E55 seem to put out around 490-500 bhp at the dyno, so any increases have to be based on a before and after experiment. Simple remaps provide little benefit unless the pulley is changed too.

Hi Asad, I only really fine slight traction issuses in sports mode (which ive been using a lot latey had just used comfort mode most of the time) Prob the bigger wheels and 285 rear tyres help :thumb: lol however Ive noticed that since I put the tyre pressures up to what id been recommend that its made the traction worse! will drop them down a few psi when I get chance and see what happens.

But yea im sure your right it will make a bit of a difference, does make me wonder how owners with around 600bhp got on! I no the ESP is very good but it must be flashing all the time if you dont drive smoothly and slowing the car down?!.

I think the E55's best asset, HUGE torque from very low down can also be its worst? although it hasnt effected me much to be honest, think that from years of powerfull front wheel drive Turbocharged cars and rear drivers with no traction control ive learnt to drive and apply the throttle smoothly! lol. however in sports mode and kick down you kinda loose that a bit!, drove with the ESP off the other day but in manual mode and was supprised how much grip there was, soon spins the wheels with very little effort if you want it to mind!.

Will have a think, will prob go the chip/pully route taking a trader to court who owes me money at the mo soon as I get that I'll go for it BUT try and drive them down on price!, seen pully's for $1000 on-line in the USA which inc a remap aint nearly 3000 pounds! like some people are asking hmmm

I've been looking into this for a while and will certainly be going to Evolve to get this done (think you've referred to them as Evo-s), I know the Guys there very well and trust their set-up and their claims (I have used them before and they have carried out work with tests to prove their claims done to my requirements - not many would do this). I have also been in talks with some of the suppliers in the US and have provided a link for one of them to hopefully supply their parts through Evolve. This will tick all of the boxes for me for when my E55 goes in for pulley/HE/IC Pump and remap.

If enough owners are interested then we may be able to negotiate a better deal through Evolve?

Let me know and Ill keep you informed.

Jules.

Hi Bishy,
I purchased Scorcher's e55 in August, any questions I'll email him, or just look through the £20k of receipts to find out who did what!!!
I settled on an e55, wanted to pay £16/17k, after finding a nice one I had it HPI'd only to find it had three mileage timewarps!!! then I saw Scorchers, bid on, then called to settle before ebay auction ended, paid a lot more an I was going to on a stock AMG but thats the price you pay for individuality and power lol

Hi seen your car and its erm got quite a lot of stuff on it! lol, you may have paid more than you intended over a standard car but there's no way that you or I could take a car to the same spec for less than the money you paid I expect.

Thought my car was nippy but bet your thing is in a different league!, due to being ripped off by a trader ive had to limit my spendings down to just a remap + filters but Im sure it'll still be plenty quick enougth .

Would be interested in any info you have on the X-pipe or any other exhaust mods that you may have mind please??

We should organise and E55 meet sit down and talk mods!.
