w211 e55k front grill

Ive seen a few e55's with a bit of clear plastic foil on the front grill.. is this an original item and if so what is it for??? Stone chips etc???.

It's the Distronic sensor.

I have just installed one on my car hehe... need to take a trip to Richard soon.

I got my grille + distronic cover from eBay - Germany, about £100 delivered (off the top of my head)... Really good price because I think the distronic cover alone is £100+ from the Mercedes dealership.

I am on the look out for new front grille too, doesn't have to be new as long as in good condition as I only want the chrome part for painting. I don't have distronic. Most seem to be in the US though and shipping can make it expensive. Does anyone know cost of new from the stealers?

There are loads of non-distronic ones on ebay. Some go for £30-40.

I've only just started looking so can't tell what has previously been listed on ebay, but all the ones I have seen have been dare I say it a bit naff aftermarket ones with the large central star! I would only consider a genuine MB one.

Thanks - I think my problem was I was searching e55 grille.

I assume they are all the same then.

Thanks - I've never really taken much notice before but can now see that some come with different colour blades on the grille. Mine are black but some are a graphite colour which I think may be from the classic / elegance variants.
