I was on the look out for a nice E55k then waited and bought the E63.

I love mine, can't fault it in any way and gets the looks and respect on the road it deserves.

To be honest I'm much the same, I have spent a insane amount of money on cars in the last 12 years, could of paid off my mortgage by now if I drove a Clio diesel.

That maybe true.

But then roll the scenario on a little - you've now paid your mortgage off and you are sitting there twiddling your thumbs.

Then you think about buying an E63 although they could be ancient by then and cost a fortune to run - that's if there are any left.

Not to mention you don't know how long you have on this planet and even if you are - will you still be able to drive...

Better to do it while you can.

Then in the future - you won't ever be sitting there and looking back wishing you'd done it earlier.

snap - exactly the same with me - found a much newer one-owner car with less miles than most 55s and a 6-month warranty (Safe & Sound) that I upgraded to 2yr for £650 (already more than paid for itself) for not too much more than the older model - and it was from a main dealer with a full MB history. Will keep 2 years and then have a think - I didn't realise there were so few sold although it seems a stretch to think values will do anything other than continue falling for the next few years. If I can extend the warranty for similar money I may keep longer - as it does make me smile, especially through the Hindhead tunnel!

Tempted! Beat him down on price and bits and pieces already, whats the main thing to look out for on these?

And also, i know i shouldnt ask... but whats the mpg like?

^ Check everything electrical works would be my advice. If possible, get a Merc indy to check the car over.
MPG is as bad as you can expect from a 6.2 engine.
Probably the same as my 55k, around 12 - 16 around town and low 20's on a run.

Unfortunatly so :(

I had a run to Wrexham and back over the bank holiday 340 mile round trip and averaged 24.3 Mpg with kids in the car so driving was slow but car + boot was full.

Town driving around 15 ish and spirited drive can easily see it drop into single figures

I'm still in 2 minds about selling mine, on one hand I'd like a change as I usually only keep my cars for a year but the E63 is just so good at everything that I'd end up losing out on the all round daily driver and silly powerfull-ness with loads of options (package) if I went for something different.

Not only that I'v spent an arm and leg on it over the last year on maintenance and mods.

Decisions decisions.

Oh btw I'm looking at the RRS 5.0SC or 740d M Sport, I know I know totaly different but just not sure what to do.

Things to look out for that cost ££££

Make sure the discs and pads are in good order, approx 3k at dealership to replace Front and rears. Check tyre wear, rears only last 6k with my driving..... Depending on mileage you might want to get a good dealer/indi to check the shocks for any leaks as they are 1k per courner.

Don't know about other E63 owners but the drivers bolster wears easily so have a good look. Otherwise i would say the are pretty bullet proof, mine is under tier 1 warranty with zero claims in 2 years, says it all.

Oh last point, gearbox requires a service every 5 years or 40k, £350 at MB on its own.

As for fuel ha ha ha ha £100 is approx 240 miles with mixed driving.

What mods do you have which you can sell to me? :)

None I can actually sell on or worth selling on unfortuantly

Just a plus point for the next buyer

Im hoping that my 15mile trip to work at a constant 50mph with only 2 roundabouts should be a pretty easy trip for the old girl, i worked out costs based upon 20mpg for this trip, hopefully im not too far out there! Works out as only £78 a month more than what im spending on my E350CDi now!

What is the best warranty company to use for these cars, can you get one direct from MB still even if the original has lapsed, i know on the other car i was looking at (M5) once it lapses you cant carry it on!

He has offered 12 months warranty anyway

Apparantly the brakes have been done recently so thats a bonus, What size tyres are they as i happen to have a spare set from my E350 anyway (Winters) So plan on keeping these!

I will double check the air system and shocks whilst there, the garage selling is an independant MB specialist anyway so fingers crossed its been looked after.

Think he said last service had engine and gearbox done anyway so all looking good.

I can deal with 240miles to a tank, is that the norm? Im getting 450 to £100 in the E350 at the moment, 240 to a tank will get me pretty much where i worked out it would at £78 extra a month, pure man maths going on here.

Can't say whether you can get an MB warranty for your car (unless you are buying now from a MB dealer) but the other two to consider are Warranty Direct and Warranty Wise. I got a quote from Warranty Wise, decided against it and they wouldn't stop trying to contact me:D. Former Top Gear presenter and used car salesman Quentin Wilson puts his name behind Warranty Wise, but that's no recommendation

Read the terms of the warranty being offered by the seller as reading the small print often exposes refusal of items you think are covered.
Personally I have salted away a certain amount that I hope will cover any expensive item that might fail me during my ownership. Others prefer the comfort of a warranty and who is to say which is correct.

Anyway, don't worry about MPG on an AMG. Just get it and enjoy it:thumb:

Keep it. You will only regret selling it - especially with those alternatives. Yawn.

I do 18 miles each way and fill up with around £80 > £85 every 6 or 7 working days. Mine is an E55K so more torque mind. I think the E63 is worse.

M5 has an horrific gearbox to go wrong on it whereas the Mercs have nice reliable slushies.

12 month non-OEM warranty may or may not be shyte. Read the small print to see what is covered. I think WD were well regarded and I think a more recent recommendation was Warranty Wise?

I'd check the brakes though or get them checked (I would use a different trusted inde unless they are one known from here. 1,000,000 years is recent relative to the time the sun has existed (4,000,000,000 years).

Not sure on the tyres - OEM E55 wheels are 245 40 18 and 265 35 18 I think.

Which E63 are you looking at? Do you have a link?

What kind of range are you getting then mate? How much to fill the tank? Im used to paying £100 for the diesel,

will give the brakes a good check when i go to view!

Perfect re the tyres, i already have a set of winters ready for next year then :thumb:

I believe 63 economy (such that it is) is better than 55.

I read it somewhere.
