W211 electric folding wing drivers side no longer working

Hi there,

After a marathon detail last Saturday, this week my drivers side folding mirror started to intermittently fail to fold out completely and then after a short while it would get there. Now it doesn't work anymore....

Have manually folded it out but it doesn't feel very secure and a bit flappy. Any ideas what went wrong and how I can fix the prob without clocking up a bill from the dealer?

Any chance you can point me in the right direction to how to get the thing disassembled to look at the wiring?

I know the outer casing with indicator lense has a small metal catch holding it on which is virtually inline with that indicator lense but obviously on the inside.

You can carefully pull the outer casing to expand the gap and you should be able to see it - then it is a flat blade screwdriver in there to push the clip and release it.

That's all I needed to fix mine which was a different issue.

Also grease the pin on the hinge, mine did exactly the same & the dealer freed the pin & its been fine ever since.

Sorry to hijack the thread but on the same note of mirrors... Does anyone know if I can get my mirrors to fold in upon locking the car? Can it be done in the settings or would I have to go to someone to get that done? I fold my mirrors pretty much every time in park because I trust nobody so if I could get them to do it themselves and open again upon unlocking that would be awesome. Any advice, greatly received.

Does it mention enabling this feature in the handbook? If not then it may be able to be set with Star.

Couldn't find a video for the E Class, but hopefully it's going to be very similar to the C Class. HTH

It's fairly similar - at 1:48 you can see the clip I was talking about but it's not quite how I remember it albeit I only did it once...
