Hi,
I have just bought a 2005 W211 Estate, not sure if they all have an auto load cover, but the bar that you locate in either side of the tailgate has a spring loaded plastic bit that locates it in the runner, one side of mine is not there and idea on what I need to search for and the official name, or would I be better just going to the dealer?

Mercedes-Benz EPC. Car Mercedes-Benz .

find your car and then set about locating the part you need. Sometimes easier said than done.
Yes not the most user friendly experience, got all the build notes from my VIN note so that was good to read, found the part I need it was number 20 on the drawing and looks like you have to buy the entire rod, but it was only $6.50 so probably be more expensive over here, but love fixing those little jobs that people have ignored, but getting this dam abs light off is going to give the grey matter a good workout me thinks?

Hi there. I have the same issue with a S212. Spring loaded plastic peg broken in half part 20 on the diagram. I was told this is available in the UK at around £35 but, did you find out how to fit it please? Thanks

Not sure what went on?, only just got the notification that my thread got a reply today. I never ordered the part got to busy with work so got side tracked. On mine the button was missing so a quick Blue Peter style fix was to insert a plastic rawl plug and screw and it worked spot on for a few weeks, just need a fatter screw to stretch the rawlplug as it slipped inside and stopped working, may be an idea to try fox yours?

Thank you very much for your reply. Yes, that is one fix but, I was hoping for the real thing. There is a plastic surround for the peg that fits over the canvas. I wondered if this is supposed to come off to fit the new peg? Or, does the peg come out with some kind of twist and pull? Even my Merc specialists don't know.

Just checked on mine and there is no obvious way of getting it out.
Why not buying one new pin part 20 from MB and then you’ll might be able to figure out what’s the way of getting the old one out.

Thanks for mucking in MercedesDriver. That, is a very good point. Where theres a will . . .
Thing is, this must have happened to many owners. I wonder why this info is so hard to get? Perhaps, its not one of the more glamorous MB problems :wallbash:

Not sure if the W211 and W212 are the same, no way would I pay £35 for such a small part unless it was driving me crazy, I would keep an eye on the Facebook pages for anyone breaking one or have a look on Ebay but you probably have already?

They are similar design if, not exactly the same. I've sent Google to overtime and not found anything. It is a crazy sum for such a little thing but, a working luggage cover is a pretty good idea to hide your goodies in the boot. I'll keep looking but, I might just have to bite the bullet.

If anyone has done this job, please let us know how its done?

Some pics. First shows unbroken side. Second shows top view of broken peg (merc diagram part 20) and third shows view from underneath.

How does one fix this, please?

Nothing like my W211 as its ali pole with a plastis push button eith end, or one side in my case, pity none of your mates don't have a 3d printer they could of printed somthing similar you could glue on?

Hi Geoff, I had the S210 and S211 before this S212 and I thought it was roughly the same arrangement. I can see that someone has tried the gluing job before and clearly, failed. Maybe, some kind of dowel, reinforced with a splint going through the middle. I could be brutal and just drill the old one out and force something suitable in its place. Thing is, for all that bother, I would rather spend the £35 if only, I knew how to fit it once the "part 20", obtained.

It does look a bit of an awkward one and I think the same as you just spend the £35 and job sorted but you may break it trying to fit, what are the breakers asking for a complete cover?. I don't know if they are still going or break cars, but when I used to do motorcycle road racing we always used Mercedes Vans and being hard up racers kept the vans on the road by fitting used parts from a company called Dronsfields, may be worth a try?

Thanks again Geoff, I have had parts from Dronsfield in the past. I think I saw a complete part 135 on ebay for around £120 plus delivery. However, if part 20 (the peg thingy) is available as an item then, there should be a way to fit it. My "double roller blind" is in near mint condition bar the flippin' peg. Sigh. . .

Bingo! At last, I have the answer which became apparent when I had the new part in my hand. Theres a wee clip you need to locate which is hidden under the cover. Get a small screwdriver behind the steel rail to push down against the clip to release it and gentle ease the whole thing off the cover. Once off, just slide the new on on.
